Over at Heather’s Homilies, Heather Hastie, prop., has set up an essay competition deriving from the Templeton-sponsored “religion and science are BFFs” essay contest I posted about the other day. Read the whole post and the contest’s rationale at her site, but here are the rules:
There are two categories, and you can enter both if you wish.
1. Sokal-type Essay
Write an essay of an experience that led to a “personal” epiphany of the “undeniable” link between religion and science.2. Anti-Accommodationist Essay
Write an essay expressing clear and concise arguments to use in opposition to the proposition that religion and science are compatible.Rules
Entries can be up to 1500 words. There is no minimum word limit.Closing Date for Entries
Sunday 2 October. Best entries will be posted soon after.
As she said, the winning essays will be published on her site, and although there aren’t monetary prizes, you could always submit it to the Templeton competition, which has a $10,000 first prize.
The essays are supposed to be submitted to me, as Heather wants her email address to remain private, so if you write one, send it to yours truly. You know how to find me.

Somehow I think that Heather’s fingertips (other body parts are probably available in some sense, though we only have indirect evidence of her fingertips, striking key-caps) would burst into hypergolic flame on contact with Templeton money.
What Jerry means is that Heather’s contest is inspired by a separate, Templeton-sponsored contest. Heather’s contest has no real connection to Templeton.
It would appear I opened my mouth before gathering all the salient facts. But still, why “sigh”?
Kudos to Heather! I hope one of her Sokal essays wins the Templeton dough.

They want 20 dollars for a “read fee”. Go F yall selves for real. Some thing this important should trump the “reading fee”. Totally unbelievable!
1500 words? Are you sure that’s the maximum? Sounds more like the minimum.
