Thursday: Hili dialogue with a special Gus appearance

Good morning! Welcome to Thursday.

It’s Iggy Pop’s birthday today, he of the allergy to shirts in any form, God bless him. Being the age I was in the Seventies, I completely missed his earlier version of China Girl co-written and performed with David Bowie and only was aware of the 1983 version that Bowie released solo. Here’s the original 1977 version from the album The Idiot.

Over in Poland this morning, the Princess is ruminating and having profound thoughts again; illustrating with her actions that all is transitory.

THE FLIGHT FROM FREEDOM
A: But you went out a minute ago.
Hili: And now I’m coming back.

In Polish

UCIECZKA OD WOLNOŚCI
Ja: Hili, przecież minutę temu wychodziłaś.
Hili: A teraz wracam.

Gus has a new box, and it seems that this box lacks the pedigree of the previous one, and is now relegated to being a goalpost instead of a tasty snack. We need to start a Buy Gus an Ikea Box campaign.

  1. Always the Cat’s prerogative to change her mind. Hili knows this.

Should make note of the announcement, although it does not happen for another four years. Harriet Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson on the $20. The best of all choices, I would think as Tubman is an inspiration to all of America.

  2. Today is also the birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II. 90 yo and still working. Happy birthday, Ma’am (and don’t forget me in your birthday honours).

  3. I once got kicked in the head by Iggy Pop, as his boot caught me when he did a stage dive at a show at the Metro here in Chicago. Best show experience ever!

    1. Cool – there’s only a few people I wouldn’t mind getting kicked in the head by and Iggy’s one of them.
Musical genius, rock and roll star and transparently a very decent bloke – those things don’t always go together.

      1. And he also gave an amusing performance as a Vorta field supervisor in an episode of ST:DS9 (‘The Magnificent Ferengi’).

        1. Quark: [to Yelgrun] Family. You understand.

Yelgrun: Not really. I was cloned.

          Nice deadpan delivery.

        2. Just YT-ed that clip… a BIG thankyou for that:) Very amusing. I’m not a Star Trek fan but that deeply peculiar little performance made me love Iggy even more.

Possibly the oddest bit of the whole thing though is that Iggy looked quite a bit like Prince(with gills).

  4. Love Iggy solo, really love The Stooges: some might say the greatest pure rock and roll band of all time. Iggy did the Reith Lectures(!) for BBC Radio 4 recently and was funny, charming and frighteningly intelligent – and his voice is a thing of almost comical sexiness.

  5. The incomparable “Iggy Stooge” (as Mr. Pop was billed on The Stooges’ debut album).

  6. Iggy Stooge, Born: April 21, 1947 (age 69), Muskegon, MI. Next to where I grew up. I small factory town at the end of the railroad tracks. I could have known him.

  7. I think we should start a campaign to get Ikea to provide Gus with a box now and then. Good advertising and they supposedly love cats!!
