Monday: Hili dialogue

Good morning!

If you are back at work today, our condolences. If you get a holiday today, party on.

It’s the anniversary of Three Mile Island nuclear accident in 1979 which most of us will remember, the nuclear meltdown at the generating station. It was largely compounded by human error and led to a lot of anti-nuclear activism including the movie The China Syndrome.

Over in Poland Hili’s thoughts have once again turned to diet.

A: Hili, there is a mouse on the verandah, again!
Hili: Yes, it’s my dietary supplement.

In Polish:

Ja: Hili, na werandzie znowu leży mysz!
Hili: Tak, to mój suplement diety.

  1. China Syndrome was an excellent movie and the Oscar nominations for Jack Lemmon and Jane Fonda were well deserved.

Incidentally, contra Grania (sorry!), the movie was released 12 days before Three Mile Island – though no doubt the Three Mile Island incident added a lot to the film’s topicality.

      1. Not precognition-conspiracy! I remember at the time, some theorists (including Dick Gregory) said that the melt-down was staged in order to promote the movie. You didn’t know Hollywood was so powerful, did you?

  2. As was said at the time, more people died at Chappaquiddick than at Three Mile Island.

  3. Hili always looking for the supplements.

Maybe should have been called chicken syndrome.

  4. I’ve always been curious how house cats can handle wild game. I mean, those little furry appetizers must be loaded with infections of once sort or another. Aren’t there parasites in the mice that are eager to move on a to swankier address so they can complete their destinies? Worms? Viruses? Bacteria? Fungi?
For cats that wander outdoors, there seems to be a risk. Probably regular checkups by a vet might catch something – before it gets into the servant class… Now I’m feeling itchy.

  5. I love the Polish for “dietry supplement” – finally something in that language I’m likely to remember!

Another great pic by Sarah Lawson.

  6. Chloe is an indoor cat and happily she has not caught any mice in the house. I’ve noticed her stalking the puppy quite often recently though 🙂
