Well, snow has fallen in Montréal, and quite a few flights are canceled this morning because of the blizzard from the South, but mine still shows up on time. We’ll see. As I’m speaking about evolution to students at Chicago’s Lab School tomorrow morning, I hope I get out.
It’s March 2, and on this day in history the Bank of England issued the first one- and two-pound notes (1797), and, in 1836, Texas declared independence from Mexico. On March 2, 1946, Ho Chi Minh was elected president of Vietnam, in 1956 Morocco gained independence from France, and, in 1995 scientist at Chicago’s Fermilab announce the discovery of the top quark. Births on this day included Pope Pius XII (1876), who declared in 1950 that Adam and Eve were the literal ancestors of humanity, and we could not believe otherwise (what a hoser!), Kurt Weill (1900), Desi Arnaz (1917), namesake of one of Stephen Barnard’s eagles, John Irving and Lou Reed (both 1942), and KAREN CARPENTER (1950).

Hili: Is there any explanation for this phenomenon?Cyrus: Yes, it is still winter.
Hili: Czy jest jakieś wyjaśnienie tego zjawiska?
Cyrus: Tak, to nadal jest zima.

Coming from a place that does not get snow, I worry that their feet get terribly cold in the snow. It surprises me that Hili and Cyrus don’t seem to be rushing back indoors. Or is this not a concern?
Hili doesn’t like it and she ususally stays outside for a very short time when there is snow but Cyrus doesn’t seem to be bothered by it at all. He never complains about his cold feet!
You should see how d*gs repeatedly shove their noses deep into the snow to get at the good smells!
Our household cat in grad school did not care for snow at all. If you took her out into the yard and placed her on the snow, she’d immediately climb on top of your shoes and meow piteously, until you picked her up and took her back inside.
Have a safe trip back home, and again, it was wonderful to meet you at last 🙂

It doesn’t really matter what personal opinion a pope states in his encyclicals there are very few theologians who will entertain the idea that it’s anything more than his opinion. Ya gotta give the popes credit for trying on this stealth infallibility, but the fact is unless the CEO of RCC Inc states something ‘ex cathedra’ (i.e. formally infallible in his function as CEO) it is not at all obligatory for catholics to believe it. This ex cathedra thing has only happened once in history.
Not a lot of catholics seem to know this and the RCC Inc executives would like to keep it that way; it’s easier to control the suckers.
I though encyclicals were ex cathedra by definition, if anything was. Not that any catholics I ever met admitted to taking infallibility seriously… (but those who still turn up and put coin in the plate are the suckers lining the pockets of people like George Pell).
