Jerry Seinfeld has a series of videos, “Comedians in cars getting coffee,” in which he goes out for coffee or noms in a hot car with a fellow comedian. (There’s a nice one with the my future wife Sarah Silverman.) This time, however, he’s scored a big coup, taking out President Obama in a smoking 1963 Corvette Stingray. Actually, Obama isn’t a comedian, and the Secret Service won’t leave him leave the White House grounds in that car, but he does get to drive it around the driveway, and Seinfeld gets a look at Obama’s armored Cadillac.

My two favorite moments:
a) Seeing Seinfeld knock at the window of the Oval Office and then giving the president a “come on what are you doing let’s go” gesture. (I then liked how he plopped on the White House couch, like a twelve-year-old with zero dignity.)
b) The conversation with the guard who wouldn’t let the two of them leave the premises. Seinfeld: “I have a series called Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” Guard: “You are a comedian in a car going nowhere.”
I liked it when Seinfeld asked if the apples had been washed.
Guards can make the ultimate straight-men for comedians, presumably 😉
I liked the little epilogue.
“Harry… don’t shoot him. My poll numbers would go down if you did harm to Jerry Seinfeld”.

I had seen this one and loved it. I just tried to watch the Sarah Silverman one and it cut out about 75% of the way, same as this one did a week ago.
The one with Sarah Silverman actually had a lasting effect on me because she talked about how she made friends with someone only to discover they were rude to wait staff. That is very relatable. Then she talked about how she was going to tell someone something about how they behaved that “would change your life forever”. I somehow think about these things a lot. Oh and she talked about how her parents talked in front of her and that was familiar to me too. I think I would get along well with Sarah Silverman.

In other news, Obama is quite a comedian. He’s quick on his feet, has great timing and can play it straight. He got some good zingers in and I wonder how much was ad libbed? Jerry seemed genuinely caught off guard a couple of times.
Sarah thinks Obama’s cool, too, just so you know.

Is it just me, or does Seinfeld look more like Gilbert Gottfried as he ages? Hmmm, now that I think about it, probably a lot of us start looking like Gilbert Gottfried as we age…
While listening to Obama’s State of the Union Address last night, I couldn’t help thinking how I’ll miss him. Yes, he’s done a few things that pissed me off, but I do like listening to him speak. Listening to GW (or his dad) was like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard…just kill me now and end my suffering. Bill Clinton was also easy on the ears. Most people felt that Reagan was a good speech giver, but his whole, witty humor to cover up blatant lies thing, rubbed me the wrong way. There he goes again…
Can you imagine having to spend 4 years listening to Trump? Or Ted Cruz? Rubio is not too bad, at least he’s fairly smart. The “get off my lawn” style of Sanders has already worn out its welcome, for me. I also don’t like Hilary’s speaking style…not bad and certainly well-informed, just not a smooth delivery like her husband.
I’m afraid my ears are in for a bad 4 years no matter who wins.
If it comes down to Sanders vs. Trump, then we’re in for at least 4 years of Brooklynspeech. Which I guess sounds fine if you’re from New Yawk, but is kind of grating for the rest of us.
I agree. I’ll miss him too. His voice is fine, but his intelligence is such a wonderful thing to see and hear in a president.
I heard an old Sarah Silverman bit I liked the other day – she said that when she was 14 years old she actually dated her father’s best friend. Why her father was best friends with a 14-year-old boy she didn’t know.
Very enjoyable. I do predict that Obamas’ popularity will increase after his presidency, especially after the next Republican prez.
I think his analogy that politics is like (American) football is pretty reasonable.

Is Obama trying to reinvent himself for life after the White House? I quite enjoyed the show he did with Bear Grylls, though he never had secret service personnel far from him, and Bear Grylls insistence on praying at the end was pretty cringeworthy

There is some talk about Obama possibly being appointed as a Supreme Court justice. He does have a degree and experience in constitutional law. Obviously, a Democrat would have to succeed him.
That’d be pretty cool, although I don’t see why Obama would want that – 8 years of being criticized for every little thing should be more than enough.
The confirmation hearing (fight/brawl/tantrum) would be something to behold.
True, but most likely there wouldn’t even be a hearing, if the recent history of presidential nominations is any indication.
The confirmation hearing might not be as brutal as you’d think, since Barack is a former senator, and the Senate (as the nation’s most exclusive gentlemen’s club) tends to look after its own (unless they’re Ted Cruz-magnitude jagoffs). IIRC, there hasn’t been a US senator, or former senator, appointed to the Court since FDR sent Hugo Black’s name up to the Hill in the mid-1930s.
Regardless, the confirmation hearings would be interesting. Obama certainly wouldn’t be able to play the deaf, dumb, and blind role that all recent (post-Bork) SCOTUS nominees have taken on at their judiciary committee hearings, claiming that they don’t want to comment on any issues that could chance to come before the Court following their confirmation.
The real deal-breaker for a SCOTUS appointment in Barry’s case, at least for any immediate successor, is that he would have to recuse himself from so many cases — those dealing with legislation he signed, those arising from investigations by his Justice Department, those dealing with his own executive actions, etc. — many of them cases in which his successor would crucially want to have any new appointee participate in. That problem would attenuate in 10 or 12 years, but by then Barack will have aged out of the running, especially since most recent presidents have chosen younger nominees (usually sitting federal appellate court judges with some, but not too much of a, track record) as a means of stamping their legacy upon the judiciary in the decades to come.
Not all the cars are hot. I particularly remember Jerry Seinfeld driving an original Beetle I think with Larry David. Larry David is so weird – he had a whole weird way of eating that seemed extremely OCD.
I found it funny when Seinfeld (who has the same taste in cars as I do) said that Larry David’s aversion to driving standard was “very Jewish” to which Larry David replied, “well I am very Jewish”.
I built a model of that ’63 Stingray as a kid, painted it the same color blue (metallic blue on molded plastic, meant to simulate the Corvette fiberglass blue). Had to have my mom empty the vacuum-cleaner (a big Hoover canister job on a carpet sled) so I could recover that little bit of chrome trim to finish the job.
This post will ruffle some cunk feathers.

I think Obama could have been a stand-up comedian if he wanted, and a good one. He has the dry wit, and the deadpan delivery, and the quick-wittedness. And the personality.
