Why Evolution is True is a blog written by Jerry Coyne, centered on evolution and biology but also dealing with diverse topics like politics, culture, and cats.
I’m gonna go with making sure that the staff don’t get any fancy ideas about loading that bag up with non-feling stuff and leaving the cat behind.

Looks as if Owl is the cat who is about to be let out of the bag.
I don’t know what he is doing, but he has beautiful eyes. I’d like to see the rest of him.
Hiding from a cucumber?
Beat me to it. I was going to say, “watching a snake.”
Waiting for some allergic person to amble by, whereupon he will leap onto the person’s left shoulder and rub against their nose to get to the other shoulder.
It looks like that’s the owner’s right knee/thigh he’s standing on. The draping doesn’t make a lot of sense in terms of normal day to day activities so I’m going with: this is some sort of play.
On second thought, maybe the owner was folding laundry.
Sure looks like it’s sitting in the lowered pants of someone on the toilet. Naturally, no cat of mine ever did that to me.
I had a feeling you were right, and turning the picture 90 degrees counter-clockwise clinched it.
Yep, I agree!
And of course my late cat never did that as well… *coff*
I agree! and….pondering whether to leap onto the naked legs, claws in or out….
I can’t believe the number of people I come across on the internet who use their phone in the toilet. 🙂
Just remember this photo when you think of asking someone is you can borrow their phone.;-)
Do you really think leaving it in your pocket instead makes that much of a difference? Remember, whatever you can smell is, by definition, in the air and going to be in contact with everything in the room not sealed in an airtight container. 🙂 There may be a gradient of contamination based on location and semiporous barriers, but in general the level of contact with airborne molecules is not going to be zero anywhere in that room.
As a woman, it’s far more likely to be enclosed in my handbag on the rare occasions it even makes it to the toilet. . And yes, it’ll stay cleaner in a pocket than when it’s used.
Besides, my sh*t doesn’t stink. 😀
Yes, that’s it. And Owl does this on a daily basis!
Yep, and that means Mark Joseph at 4.1 is right too.

Pooping? (Can I say ‘pooping’ here?)
Helping. Clearly.
Making sure their servant doesn’t fall in.
I’m not a cat expert, but my ex’s cat used to like crawl into/sit on top of anything new in it’s environment. every time we brought something home in a box the cat, named Mitts, would invariably end up inside the box. She would also do this whenever I would come to visit for a few days and bring an overnight bag. So, I’m gonna guess that our feline subject there was just being curious.
Being very cute, what else.
I can’t be sure, but the markings on the face are really special. And if that’s a toilet, I don’t care to know.
It’s looking for Creationists, to tell them: “My ancestors used to eat your ancestors, and you obviously would love to forget this.”
That cat’s cuteness is off the scale.
Is there even a scale for cat cuteness? I think all attempts at measuring it have resulted in the test equipment instantly overloading….
b&
Yes. It goes from “cat” to “cat”. There’s also an International Standards Organisation scale, which also goes from “cat” to “cat”, but those cats are ISO cats not non-ISO cats and are not directly comparable.
Is the cat now an accepted (or proposed) SI unit of cuteness? If so, what’s the relation with other base units, like charge or time?
b&
They don’t charge you for their time. Play is free. Just make sure the bowl is full. Measure cuteness in bowls full.
I don’t think there exist enough bowls in the entire multiversal temporal-spatial continuum to adequately tally Baihu’s cuteness….

You may be right. But I wouldn’t give up until I tried the infinitely regressive, Matreshka, Dr. Who callbox, or a palm-TARDIS.
Cats are timeless (there’s a story about a cat under threat of death in a closed box inventing the time machine), and even when charged, definitely weren’t there (Macavity). Cat spin is quantised by the slices of buttered toast in the V_c(*) field. Mass is ooptional for cats – Higgs can’t get it’s claws into them. And the length of a properly relaxed cat is 1m (but measuring the cat disturbs it’s relaxation. So prove me wrong!)
I think that covers all bases.
…and, if you think you understand quantum feline dynamics, you really don’t….

Odd version of “click to see what happens…”
My guess is the cat is finally being let out of the bag.
The cat appears to be monitoring the owner’s actions in the bathroom involving reading material and a porcelain fixture (pooping). The only thing stymieing me in the claim for a slam dunk (bad analogy here) is that the clothing item does not appear to have a proper waistband. I’ll still go with the obvious.
This is Security Cat running a bag check!
Owl be damned if I know what Owl is doing.
😀
Something involving clothing and pooping (others have suggested this too).
You people all have dirty minds. The cat is stalking a mouse from behind some curtains.
