It’s the Lord’s Day, which means that Professor Ceiling Cat will speak about his book to a passel of local humanists and then, later this afternoon, head back to Chicago. My visit to South Carolina, while short, has been immensely enjoyable, and my hosts, particularly Irena Schulz, have gone to a great deal of trouble to make sure I had a good time. But more on that later, including photos of noms and the ever-entertaining Snowball.
Meanwhile in Dobrzyn, Hili plays theologian, making a virtue of both necessity and her own comforts. I am all too used to this solipsism! (Note Andrzej’s University of Chicago hoodie.)
Hili: I’ve always felt good in the company of people reading books.
A: But I’m not too comfortable.
Hili: This way you can concentrate better and you will not fall asleep.
Hili: Zawsze dobrze się czułam w towarzystwie ludzi czytających książki.
Ja: Ale mnie nie jest najwygodniej.
Hili: W ten sposób możesz się lepiej koncentrować i nie przysypiasz.

Know exactly how he feels, when Kneeps climbs on my lap and then starts digging his claws in.lol As the Late Terry Pratchet remarked “Cats were once worshipped as Gods, they have not forgotten this.”
So cute the way Hili couldn’t possibly be any closer to one of her humans while still managing to look totally cat-aloof!
A cat settled on your chest requires a bit of effort to breath. Thus, our concentration shifts past the self to the diaphragm as if in awareness meditation. Cats are gurus helping to guide us toward healing contentedness and boundless truth. Such knowledge infuses us as we realize the physical world is an ingredient of subjective mysteries. But, it’s harder to turn the page.
Kindles or tablets make page-turning much easier when chestally cat-encumbered.
They’re still a bit difficult to see through, though.

I have had three cats over my 72 adult life that looked a lot like this one. Each unique and very loving and liked to lay on me or next to me. One as a kitten I allowed to lay on the back on of my neck. Bad idea because as he got bigger and heavier he made my neck sore and I had a hard time getting him to lay elsewhere. That was where he insisted on laying. I eventually won out. I have immensely enjoyed my cats over the years. I wished they lived a lot longer. I have been at the same house since 1972, and have buried my cats in a section of my huge flower garden that I made myself when much younger. Soon to be 73.
