Readers’ wildlife photographs

March 4, 2015 • 7:45 am

We’re back, and I have a full tank. Today we have both color and black-and-white pictures from a new contributor, Danish Meman.  His/her notes:

I took these images during a very wet autumn day at Omega Park in Quebec. It’s essentially a Canadian Safari. I took all the pictures from the driver’s seat in the car (they don’t allow you to get out). I think my favorite is the Arctic Wolf sitting atop the cliff. As soon as I pulled my camera out, she walked up there, sat down and posed for the camera. Hope you enjoy them, and you can check out more of my work at humanconceptsblog.wordpress.com.

White wolf (this appears to be the same species as the arctic wolf, perhaps in winter coat—but why is the one above not white?):

Elk (Cervus canadensis):

  1. This very well might be my favorite photos ever on WEiT – especially the wolf! Beautiful.

  2. These are indeed beautiful photos. I do wolves. Thanks!

The bison photo has reminded me of this interesting article I read the other day, about buffalo/cow hybrids and the effect they’re having on the ecosystem in the Grand Canyon. Be sure to have a look at the video at the end of the article, showing ‘a bison rubbing against a stone’!

  3. The picture of Bambi is my favorite. It’s a hard pick though; all pictures are great.

  4. Wow. Among my favorite photos of the past year. I can’t quite put my finger on why, but it might be the raw, grim, almost dangerous atmosphere. Very humbling.

  5. Those are stunning. There is a vast reserve of photographic talent among the readers here at WEIT. A reserve to which I contribute very little.

  6. Very nice pictures. I find I am liking photography that has been processed to combine B&W with muted colors.

I do not know about this subspecies of wolf, but other wolves do have a range of color variations. Within the same pack of timber wolves you can see grey, brown, black or white individuals.

  7. I was struck by these photos too. In my case they immediately lowered my stress levels after a hump of a Hump Day. Animals in rest…

  8. I never cease to be absolutely amazed by the quality of photography in these “reader’s photos” threads!

  9. Thanks for the beautiful selection of mammals! Oh, and trout lake of course.

That black bear looks like he/she is contemplating something mischievous.
