Monday: Hili dialogue

February 2, 2015 • 4:40 am

I have not yet looked out the window, but the news is dire: they didn’t plow the side streets in Chicago as snow was still falling last night, and so I will slog to work through deep snow. Still, it will be beautiful, and there will be no traffic. Meanwhile in Dobrzyn, the snow has melted some, and Hili dreams of romping through spring fields after rodents:

Cyrus: How nice that it’s warmer.
Hili: Yes, but it will be really idyllic when spring comes.

Hili

In Polish:
Cyrus: Dobrze, że jest cieplej.
Hili: Tak, ale sielsko będzie dopiero wiosną.

  1. Hi Dr Coyne . I wonder if you could ask Hili’s staff what the “shed-like” log and slat out-building in the picture is used for and what it is called. I have a big interest in cool sheds and other such buildings (and wish I had enough property to build lots of them)!

    1. That’s right, it is a well. On the right you can see a wheel for lowering a bucket and getting to the water.

  2. Snow day for me but I’ll do some work at home because I feel guilty about it. I always feel guilty even when the whole institution has decided to close because of the weather. I’m all antsy to get to work and I’m getting frustrated.

Hope your walk to work was safe, Jerry! The university is probably closed!

  3. Hili and Cyrus could work together to capture rodents in the snow. Both could listen for them as they run through their tunnels in the snow, and then Cyrus could dig, under Hili’s command. Like those foxes and coyotes in snowy nature films … except that Hili would not have to endure the indignity of plunging face-first into the snow to get at the mousies.

  4. I still need to introduce Baihu to snow. Not sure I’ll get a chance this year for that kind of a road trip…if not, I’ll make sure I do next year.
