Here’s another of those bizarre and funny Russian cat videos. This time the Soviet moggie apparently loves the smell of olives, which, like catnip, drives her into a frenzy—but she doesn’t seem to want to eat them. Perhaps a Russian reader can translate the YouTube title:
Cat goes nuts over olives

Title means: Cat and Olives (Russian)
Female cat.
Google Translate gives me “Cat and Olives.”
What a cutie!! I want one!
What, an olive? I’m sure you can have more than just one!

I’ll have what shes having
I wonder, is the response to the olives the same as catnip — genetic?
My cats must not have that gene. They are completely indifferent to catnip. My previous pair, however, were crazy about it.
My old cat, Angus, went absolutely nuts for olives as well–but as I prefer anchovy-stuffed olives, I always assumed it was the fish component, and not the olive itself!
My mother-in-law had a Lhasa Apso named Kushka. It wasn’t until a few years later when I was taking Russian classes that I realized she must have had a sense of humor.
кошка as opposed to KOT.
That’s crazy!

I think the main smell of olives in a tin would be vinegar, so I hypothesise that the cat is responding to the effect on her sensitive nasal membranes of the vinegar, which she seems to both like and dislike at the same time. Then it sends her nuts.
My cat does this when he smells my feet after I’ve been to the gym. Now I know why, my feet smell like olives post work out.
hah! All our cats LOVE olives, and roll around on them like catnip exactly like the cat in the video.
My ex-cat also loved olives (green only, not black) – including the pizza-topping version. This same feline also exhibited a spectacular salivary response to catnip; and I always wondered whether the two substances had chemical similarities.
That is genuinely one of the weirdest, funniest things I’ve seen in a long while. What in the eff!?
I had a cat who loved olives. But before actually eating them he would play soccer with them all over the kitchen floor and then, when he tired of the game, he would pounce on and eat it. Green olive with pimento.
I totally get this…
Canned olives are dreadful…right up there with canned asparagus.
Never had the words to describe until now. They taste just like canned catfood!
