. . . and I use the term loosely. But, as Maru says, I do my best, and this is the best I can do when I’m jet-lagged.
Reader George sends a photo of urban wildlife:
Here’s a photo of my cats watching a squirrel eat a slice of apple.

My cat-telepathy sense is tingling … could they possibly be thinking of some fava beans and a nice chianti?
I live in the middle of a terrace of Georgian houses with another terrace backed on to us. The whole length of the terraces are just back gardens with the only access to outside being at either end. So it is perfect for the cats who can wander along in safety.
I have a pair of squirrels that have taken up residence in my yard and they’re foraging in the fallen maple leaves for the seeds. At first I was really vigilant in case my tuxedo cat might catch and kill one. He kept stalking them and they were just scarpering up the trees.
Then one turned around and faced off with him, really vocally with the tail shaking. My cat didn’t know what to do, and just stopped chasing them after that. One is quite tame and I’m guessing that perhaps before finding their way into the gardens it may have lived in a local park. People are always feeding them treats. So now I’m supplementing them with the odd handful of nuts, while my cat sits a few feet away, not sure what to make of it all.
Cute shot, George!
