Today’s my last day in Sofia, with a bit of catch-up work, a bit of sightseeing, and then dinner with my friends who have promised to let me film and photograph their cat, Toncho, eating cucumber. Meanwhile in Dobrzyn, Hili is huffy about the outcome of the New Yorker cat-versus-dog debate. I let Hili down!
A: Did you read about the outcome of the debate in New York on the virtues of dogs and cats? The dog lovers won.Hili: Do not talk to me about it.
In Polish:
Ja: Czytałaś o wynikach tej debaty w Nowym Jorku na temat zalet psów i kotów? Wygrali miłośnicy psów.
Hili: Nie mów mi o tym.

I think it’s Saturday, even in Sofia.
Indeed! I’ve fixed it. It’s also SNOWING in Sofia!
The Wife (She Who Must Be Obeyed) was hearing of snow in Sloviansk, Belegorod and Moscow over the last few days, so no surprise that Sofia is getting the “deep and soggy and uneven” treatment too. Apparently, the Total (oil co) president who got killed in a plane crash a couple of days ago, crashed because of a snowplough on the runway. (Which sounds a bit peculiar. But weird things happen in aviation, particularly when you get to Moscow and points east.)
Oh dear – a snowplough on the runway. If it didn’t end in tragedy, it could make one of the Top 50 Only in Russia pictures. I like #50 & wish we had it in Canada.
I spent a depressing several hours watching the “ballet of the snowploughs” at StJohns NF a couple of years ago. I could see that they were losing the battle, but they were fighting hard. No worries, and I just booked back into the hotel I’d left several hours previously.
The Heathrow 2010 débâcle on the other hand, was just an utter débâcle.
Snowing?! It looked so nice out in your pictures!
Hili looks like that’s exactly what she’s saying!
I thought that too!
I guess Hili’s not going to be visiting New York any time soon….
