However, as I’ll be either travelling or catching up over the next two days, I’d like to request that people hold off sending such things until Thursday morning. Here are a few photos of my infestation of Tobacco Hornworms, Manduca sexta ( in South Carolina). About a dozen or so of these monsters (their name means ‘glutton’) decimated my two thriving tomatoes in two days. Lucky for them I like bugs more than tomatoes. They are interesting in that they are able to metabolize toxic nicotine from tobacco and exhale a ‘toxic halitosis’ to deter predators. Those things make a weird noise if you threaten them. I had a bunch on tomatoes one year & if I put my finger near one it would make a weird rattle sound.
These would be why I would raise tomatoes.
