Two more from Stephen Barnard in Idaho. The pair of bald eagles he’s watching has finally produced an eaglet. Here’s the first picture of the female feeding it!
I asked if there were likely to be more eaglets, and Barnard replied that it was likely, since the pair had raised five chicks in the last two years.
And a great horned owl (Bubo virginianus), which Stephen considers one of the best wildlife photos he’s ever taken:
Below is the range of the great horned owl from the Cornell webpage. It appears to be non-migratory, even in the extreme northern reaches of its range:

Great photos! The little chick looks cute – kind of like Woodstock from Charlie Brown and the owl is really nice. I rarely see owls here but once I was in my own woods at dusk & I could here one “whooing”. I also saw one once while kayaking that was being harassed by crows and blue jays! What a racket! The jays started with their jay sound, which attracted more Jays then all the crows started. Poor owl couldn’t get any sleep!
Amazing photo of the owl.
That owl photo really is superb. And lad to finally see an iglit!
…but…not to steal Stephen’s thunder or anything…but…where’s Hili…?

Thanks for sharing all your wonderful photos, Stephen. It must be like a little corner of ‘Eden’ where you are!
Stunning shot of the GH Owl. Thanks Stephen!
The eaglet was 8 days old at the time of the photo.
Stunning photos!
