Jerry Coyne, snuggling

March 26, 2014 • 1:37 pm

At ten weeks old Jerry Coyne the Cat is already a roué, eliciting fusses from all and sundry. Here he is in a video with rescuer Gayle Ferguson.

I love the little smile she makes at the end (Gayle is a serious person), which I fancifully interpret as her thinking, “Thank goodness I rescued you, little guy. What a cute kitten you’ve become!” She then speaks to him, but I can’t make out what she says.

In three days Jerry Coyne flies to Christchurch to meet his new staff. I will miss him.

  1. I think Gayle’s speaking Cat. She appears to be quite fluent in the language.

It doesn’t translate very well into English….

    1. Ha ha! Yes she said he was a good boy. I heard that really plainly but I am the official Kiwi/Aussie translator wherever I go! 😀

      1. I understood her to say “you’re a good boy” also. Have you noticed that women commenters heard it and men commenters did not? I wonder if that is significant.

        1. Female voices are often preferred by both sexes when it comes to electronic devices. In jet fighters the voice is female and commands more attention – it is speculated that this is because of the register of the female voice.

However, it a room full of loud males, I find my voice doesn’t get heard over their voices so I guess it is particularly heard in isolation.

Probably just a coincidence that the males seemed not to hear the Gayle.

    2. Heard this as well, quite well even “such a good boy” and I’m non native english speaker and found Jerry Coyne, the human impersonator, at times difficult to understand. 🙂
