I was happy the rain melted some snow. The drifts are no longer almost over my 5 ft fence and are only part way up the gate!
Blue skies and sunshine in Chicago today although forecast is partly cloudy and some rain. Yesterday, temp got to 60F (15.6C). Today it will just reach 40F (4.4C). Tomorrow it will stay below freezing and maybe some snow on Tuesday.
I have a friend who grew up in Southern California. What struck her the most about Chicago is how people act during the summer – or even the first weekend of decent weather (with decent very loosely defined). There is this pressure to go outside and do something. In SoCal, the weather is always at least decent. But in places like Chicago, where we know that winter is coming (even now as it is just ending), every opportunity to enjoy and take advantage of the city must be grasped fully.
I’m sad that we’ve had more signs of winter hanging on (a light snowfall and cold temperatures).
But spring is coming, because I saw my first two robins today! A big flock of starlings has been back for over a week now. They’re such greedy marauders, and don’t go for birdseed, preferring cat kibble and suet. The hawks, mallards, doves, sparrows, wrens, etc. have been here all winter, and seem to be growing in numbers.
