Thursday: Hili dialogue

March 6, 2014 • 3:33 am

The Feline Princess of Poland is back!

Hili: This mouse I just ate had an angelic taste.
A: How do you know? You’ve never eaten angels.
Hili: But I did once eat a sparrow, and sparrows have feathers, too.

In Polish:

Hili: Ta myszka, którą właśnie zjadłam miała anielski smak.
Ja: Skąd wiesz, przecież nigdy nie jadłaś aniołów?
Hili: Ale jadłam wróble, które też mają piórka.

  1. Okay… this more than makes up for yesterday. Much happier now. Thank you Hili!

      1. I agree… I don’t think that I ever really get ANY of the Hili Dialogues…

But they are a staple, now.

      2. Absolutely. Hili can say anything and it makes you smile or laugh. And her expressions, so telling. Curious though, with all the readers out there, no one has come forward with the complete translation. It wasn’t even posted on tumblr. The plot thickens…

  2. With an expression like that on her face, I bet the angels are doing their best to avoid being noticed by Hili.

    1. In a “Not Being Seen” contest between a cat and anything but a nightjar, the cat will always win. The angels damned well better be shitting their wings….

  3. There was a dialogue with Hili yesterday that Jerry did not post – too inside maybe. But I need help translating it!

Hili: Pół nocy się śmiałam czytając tę książkę, ale z tym pośladkowym porodem IV Rzeczpospolitej to przesadziłeś.
Ja: Rzecz o wyciu brzydkich kaczątek wszystko wyjaśnia.
Hili: Mnie najbardziej podoba się ta opowieść jak nanobozia bakterię lepił.

Not sure about “pośladkowym porodem”. The gluteal birth? Is this like the American English – “pull out of one’s ass”? I assume that IV Rzeczpospolita is in reference to what Matyja proposed in 1997 and PiS used as its slogan in the 2005 Polish elections.

And what does nanobozia mean? Microgod? Not sure what “nanobozia bakterię lepił” means. microgod made/modeled/paste bacteria?

The title of Andrej’s book is “I z wichru odezwał się Pan : Darwin, czuj się odwołany”.

What would be the English title? A literal translation does not sound so good – “And the Lord Answered from the Whirlwind: Darwin, Feel Revoked”.

I think odezwac means answer or respond. Could it be used as “cried out”?
