Jesus ‘n’ Mo ‘n’ Moses ‘n’ Templeton

I may have published this before, as it’s an oldie (but a goodie). And the Jesus and Mo artist republished this classic today.

From Templeton’s site:

Picture 1 Picture 3The Templeton Prize is the equivalent of  $1.8 million (US), while the Nobel Prize (which can be divided three ways) is the equivalent of $1.2 million dollars.  The Templeton Prize is deliberately designed to bestow more money than the Nobel.

  1. “…made an exceptional contribution to affirming life’s spiritual dimension…”

Holy confirmation bias, Batman! Only an idiot would assume the conclusion he’s trying to conclude! Do we have any Batlogic we can spray them with?

    1. Sorry, my Batcan ran out, one creationist too many.

But I hear there is a cell for them in Arkham Asylum.

    2. Yup, doesn’t that affirming say it all? Like the Ham-Nye debate question about evidence, sometimes the theists themselves give the best and clearest examples of their unscientific views. A scientist would give a prize for some greatly improved understanding, but theists give it for great affirmation.

    1. The templeton people are pretty good at smelling a sham proposal (meaning someone only pretending to look for consilience to get their money). They jumped off the ID bandwagon almost before it was a movement. Given Dawkins’ well publicized positions, his books, etc… I doubt there is anything he could say to them that would convince them to give him funding. They pretty much know that any dollar going to Dawkins is going to be a dollar used against their goal, no matter what the proposal might say.

      1. The good news is the cat is out of the bag: everyone who is anyone knows what Templeton is about. And if you accept money, there are repercussions that can no longer be ignored. Reminds me that I need to send the foundation my annual email outlining the biased and often manufactured prerogatives they promote in scientists.

  2. We really should make the fact that Templetons pay more than Nobels a point for mocking the former. I’m thinking a giant xkcd poster in which physics, chemistry, and medicine Nobels are listed along with a pithy statement of the impact they’ve had. On the other side of the ledger, the Templetons are listed …

  3. At some time in the past, the artist behind Jesus & Mo devised better noses for his characters. The reused older comics reflect this improvement.

  4. Hey, I’d sell my soul to Templeton for 1.1 mil. And the best bit is how screwed they’d be because there’s no such thing as a soul! Mwaaa ha ha ha.. Don’t publish that, it might hurt my chances of winning.
