Jesus visits Sarah Silverman

January 26, 2014 • 9:39 am

Everyone’s favorite Saviour pays a call on the very Jewish Sarah Silverman. They discuss women’s reproductive rights, and Sarah disses Texas’s insane anti-abortion restrictions.  Then, at the end, Jesus and Sarah appear to canoodle a bit—such blasphemy!

This is a new video, but in the 5 days since its first posting it’s gotten 750,000 hits.

Ms. Silverman is now the Official Website Comedian™.

  1. Very nice. A bit blasphemous (that’s what nice 😉 ), a bit preachy, but nice.

But look at the comments! Of course, we knew the christians would be outraged, but the amount of nazi-inspired anti-semitic hatred is just off the charts.

I really need to read Pinker’s “The Better Angels of Our Nature” to see how he arrives at his conclusion, because if society is getting better, I’m finding it hard to see. Unless this is just the death throes of the beast before it finally expires.

    1. Mark Joseph:

      By using statistics.
Statistics allow you to make trends tangible and visible that nobody can directly feel or see.
Statistics are a new, sixth sense, that takes some doing to make them look natural. Some people never reach the level of training necessary to make the results of statistics look obvious.
That’s why statistics retain some kind of mysterious aura, magic by numbers.

    2. Our little human brains aren’t good at seeing the big stuff. That’s why we need statistics. Big mouth anti semites and other jerks tend to stick out. Also the media reports on violent and tragic stories not boring every day stuff so we tend to think that it’s armageddon outside our windows.

      Yes read Pinker’s book!

    3. Keep in mind that many of the people who made the nasty comments only did so because of internet anonymity, and would likely not actually do anything violent.

    4. Pinker’s book is amazing and fascinating. I got it a week ago and am nearly finished (no one warned me it has 700 pages – very, very thorough). Not just statistics, but theories of the psychology and sociology of violence, with hundreds of studies referenced. Read it!

      1. I’m impressed it took you only one week….I was at it for months (but I only read for a small bit of time before bed).

I liked that Steven Pinker takes the time to explain the statistics. That sets it apart from many other books!

        1. Yes exactly.

I’m retired, and hibernating during miserable weather, so reading ~2 hours per day.

  2. Funny stuff, as usual.

Though the graphic showing the pathway of the urethra to vas deferens is “intelligently designed” in that video. It should be unintelligently looping around the ureter.

[obviously, I’m just being pointlessly pedantic here]

    1. I’m so glad the video showed this because I was thinking “I bet those bastards will make that vaginal probe hurt too” when the video of the male sperm probe came on. Perfect!

      1. Addressing this as a male, I am quite confident that there was nothing in that video vaguely like a “male sperm probe.” If there was, I would have instantly suppressed all recollection of it, but since I clearly haven’t done so, it obviously must not have been there.

        1. While perhaps not as egregious as “verbing” nouns, I find your use of the word “nominal” as a noun somewhat distasteful in that it referred to a single word and not multiple words intermediate between a single noun and a whole noun phrase.

          1. From the unimpeachable source that is my iPhone dictionary application:

“Grammar: a word or group of words functioning as a noun.”

Also, I believe you meant to write “gerund”.

(Don’t worry. I got that joke. And I will not have my pedantry pedanted!)

      1. Maybe you’re too young to remember the frilly ( awful) bathing caps we used to have to wear in pools:-(

        1. I’m 66 and never had to wear a bathing cap as a baby nor ever saw babies with bathing caps in swimming pools – most babies don’t have enough hair, if any, to justify the wearing of a bathing cap. When I was at school in England, we had to wear bathing caps in the pool and when competing (I won several South of England Schools championships), but none of them were ever frilly.

There were, however, hideous frilly and flowery caps that women wore.

          1. They had flowers on them & had an obscenely plastic smell that, like so many things from the 50s & 60s, probably turned out to be carcinogenic. There are chicer ones now & I wonder if they are smelly.

          2. The ones of my childhood and youth were plain smooth rubber with a chin-strap. The hideous frilly flowery ones were favoured by the American ladies I used to see at the lakeside at the private UN “beach” in Geneva who also wore these hideous glasses which extended way out on the sides in an upward wing-like shape.

When swimming in the lake or in the sea, I never wore a cap, much preferring the feel of the water on my scalp, even when I had long hair (I had very long hair most of my life with a couple of periods when I wore it very short like Twiggy or in the Vidal Sassoon “Greek Goddess” style in the sixties, like this one: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LH8NJaYq5K4/UJRDhArrIFI/AAAAAAAAAgQ/-QwIRldrgj8/s1600/greek-jpg_093708.jpg

          3. I think bathing caps look ghastly and as unsexy as it is possible to get. So those 1950’s movies with the ‘bathing beauties’ in bathing caps just make me cringe.

  3. Considering all those Real Men™ who pack the stadiums crying out their love for Jesus, it seems to me that he’s just Sarah’s “safe” gay “boyfriend.”

  4. At 0:58 in this video, we have clear evidence that Jesus may not be omnipotent, when Sarah finds a piece of popcorn in His beard.

I’m thinking He wasn’t aware of it. He could have been aware of it, however, and was just testing Sarah’s love for Him, similar to the way He tested Simon Peter.

Jesus is nothing if not a tricky bastard.

  5. O, for years and years now when I have been tossed any pro – lifer mother – muck, I have required of these folks THE very same thing and told them so several times: ANY sloughed, dna – containing, human cell from anywhere “ soooo, so needs to be s.a.v.e.d. , dudn’t it ? … … cuz it so does have that life – stem property, thus personhood, to it, not ? ! ”

GUESS just how swiftly, along with my requirement of many o’ these same people for even at least one little boy’s penectomy .IF. clitoridectomy .AT All exists anywhere. , guess just how fast these same people skedaddle the ‘eLL AWAY from me / from my presence ? !

‘f course, first they call me unrepeatable names. And then they leave me alone.

  6. Silverman nails (sorry, Jesus…) the argument on when life begins. The answer from biology, of course, is that life does not begin at conception, but the public discourse on the question is dominated by the rhetoric of the political and religious right. The assertion that “life begins at conception” needs to be directly countered by asking how it is that sperm and oocytes create “life” if they themselves are not alive. Abiogenesis? I’m glad she’s speaking out on this issue.

    1. In many different discussion sites, when people assert that life begins at conception, I always respond that life began billions of years ago and that life is merely transferred at conception by living organisms – the ovum and the sperm – that stem from living organisms – the mother and the father. I also emphasize that we do not create life, we merely procreate, as creation is a conscious process whereas procreation is not, especially as conception occurs quite a while after sexual intercourse and neither parent is conscious (except some women who do feel it when it occurs) of that moment, neither are they directing it nor determining the shape of the future child, its features, its hair, skin and eye colours, etc.

    2. Yes — life began roughly four billion years ago, and likely won’t end for another few billion at least.

Terrestrial life, at least; figures may be different for extraterrestrial life.

    3. Since more then 1/2 of all fertilized eggs fail to implant, the notion that life begins at conception means that god is the world’s most prolific abortionist.

        1. Ah, but dontchaknow? Those’re all the woman’s fault. Because Eve let YHWH’s snake brother talk her into talking Adam into eating a sinfruit, that’s why.

  7. While I agree with Sarah’s overall point of view, I do get a bit irritated by such sophistry as needing to “pack a lunch to get healthcare”. This is such a distortion as to constitute a lie.

Now, you might need to pack a lunch to get access to this one particular healthcare item, if you choose to define this as part of healthcare.

    1. How, ‘ pray ’ tell, is Ms Silverman fallaciously arguing re what is or what is not healthcare ? !

To where / to what would a man, harboring within or with on his person an unnecessary / an unwanted lump, .go. for its removal ?

To a car mechanic, a geologist, to a jeweler, to a back alley lumpectomy – surgeon, a miner or to a mountaintop leveler ?

A lump within a female human is not a human baby .until and unless. SHE, to HERself — let alone — to ANYONE else, believes that it is a human baby.

Thus, this lump removal of hers / from out of her .IS. healthcare.

      1. Even ignoring the question of the particular procedure and why it should be treated differently from any other, there’s also the matter that family planning and reproductive health services in general are being devastated as collateral damage. The TRAP laws that’re closing “abortion clinics”? Those’re often the only facilities in the area that offer affordable pap smears and contraception and the like as well.

As far as I’m concerned, every politician who’s voted in the affirmative on any of these measures needs to do some serious hard time for practicing medicine without a license.

  8. Good on Sarah for recruiting Michael Weatherly to play Jesus. He’s a main character in NCIS (a televison series that gains on average 18-20 million views per episode). Hopefully many, who normally wouldn’t have seen this video, will!
