We had a corker of a storm yesterday: the sky turned black all of a sudden, sheets of rain poured down, and the wind was making an unearthly howl, like a child’s tin whistle. Downstate there were severe tornadoes, but Ceiling Cat spared Chicago the brunt of it.
The storm cleared, allowing the Bears game to continue after a two-hour delay (the stadium was evacuated during that time). And the birds went nuts in the wind. Here’s the aftermath of the storm showing a flock of befuddled birds in front of an obscured skyline:

Ceiling Cat spared us up here in Milwaukee, too, although he did get his weather-priests to send us all to our basements.
We had a helluva doozy here last night too, Dr.C. We were also lashed by driving rain and driven batty by the banshee wail of the wind, most probably the same storm system as yours. I was in bed reading my Dawkins book when I kept feeling ‘tremors’…. the wind was shaking the house and the bed. I checked outside and winds were in the 75kph range, whipping around garbage and patio cushions through the neighbourhood. No one else was concerned, as there was no tornado warning on the boobtube, but I still kept my ears open in case I heard a train coming.
It’s going to be an interesting winter, methinks.
Are you sure it wasn’t God shaking the house?
Haha… yeah, could’ve been some kinda divine retribution for reading heretic books, eh? 😉
Sorry about that. Those nasty systems keep whipping over our heads here in the Rockies, and we keep praying that nothing bad comes of them as they head out east. Doesn’t seem to help any, though… not sure why.
That’ll be the laws of physics, that’ll be.
Just a second while I contort into my “country bumpkin weather expert, propping up a gate” disguise. […] Got it.
“Ohhh, arrr!”
Bad here too. Some places lost power due to downed lines and they are going through rotating blackouts.
Bad here three. (SW MI.) Power out, trees down all over. Still!
Those bids don’t look too befuddled to me. The one on the left is grinning!
Did they really evacuate the stadium? My gut feeling is that this probably would not be a good idea.
I too was wondering where they’d evacuate to! The streets?!
