Caturday felid: Simon’s cat, animation and documentary

August 3, 2013 • 4:32 am

Did I miss something in this video?: does Simon’s cat have a kitten? And did the cat pack its paraphernalia hoping to be taken along? If so, why is he so pleased when the owner takes off with his suitcase full o’ toys, leaving the cat behind?

You can subscribe to Simon Tofield’s inimitable animations here.

And here’s a recent S. C. video I’d missed:

Simon’s Cat creator Simon Tofield was honored to be invited to decorate a giant statue of Aardman’s Gromit for their children’s charity – The Grand Appeal (2013). All of the Gromit sculptures have been placed around the city of Bristol, UK. Visitors can search for statues on the The Gromit Unleashed Trail. They will then be auctioned later this year.

In this video, we see how Simon covered Gromit in 100s and 100s of his illustrations.

  1. The kitten was introduced some months ago and, from the word ‘go’ it was pretty clear that the cat regarded the kitten as something of an interloper.

The kitten, of course, just wants to play, which just irks the cat more.

  2. I wonder if the kitten annoys him by playing with the squeaking toys all the time? So he was hoping to get rid of the annoying toys. That was the impression I got from the end when the cat began squeaking the toy. But I could be wrong.

      1. I had no idea either, until I read teacup’s post. Then it was suddenly all clear.

      2. I think the Cat was planning to get rid of the kitten along with his stuff, which is why he looks so defeated when Simon takes the suitcase away but the kitten is still on the bed.

    1. For a moment there I was thinking it was a female nude sculpture. One track mind I guess…

  3. I think Simon’s Cat was hoping that the kitten was in the suitcase with its stuff, which is why he looked so disappointed when he realized the kitten was still here.

    1. ..and then he annoys him still more by repeatedly squeaking the one toy that managed not to end up in the suitcase.
      All pretty clear now, hey?
