Matthew Cobb sent me this, demanding that I post it. Since he’s a good contributor here, I bow to his wishes:
You have to admit that it’s quite clever—and disconcerting. According to Dr. Cobb, there are others like this on YouTube. I’ll take his word for it.
Does the illusion disappear if they take of the dark glasses?
It might weakened if their eyes were visible. The bodies are so active, we’re inclined to disregard where the heads are.
Does this mean we are programmed to see bodies, as we are to see faces, and the colouring is strong enough to make us mismatch them?
It’s obviously some kind of German meme – most of the videos have the sunlasses and the same music, so I guess it was a sketch or a video that has since been repeated hundreds of times. Can any German readers help?
Huffpo calls it a Strumpfhosentanz — a stocking pants dance. But others on YouTube say it’s from Russia. In any case you have to hand it to Homo Sapiens for creativity.
Over here we call those pantyhose. They seem to have economised by simply sharing black and white pairs – which helps keep them together.
The song is German, but the text on the curtain behind them is Cyrillic.
Didn’t sound Russian to me. But it didn’t sound German either, so “Meh!”

If christians had souls they wouldn’t be able to see illusions.
