How green were the Hitler Youth?

In keeping up with the theme begun by Jerry and Matthew, we can now ask: how green were the Hitler Youth? In the following clip, the Australian comedy show The Hamster Wheel reveals that Lord Monckton, the well known and, on the evidence of this video, loony, climate change denialist, is actually a character created by Sacha Baron Cohen. Baron Cohen’s previous creations include Borat, Ali G., and Bruno.

  1. The first time I watched this, I seriously hoped Cohen had a new character.

Then I realized the joke, and I thought: “This is the best comedy I’ve ever seen!”

  2. A part of me wanted to believe that Cohen had pulled off a decades long hoax of hilarious proportions. But a fun video nevertheless!!

  3. ROFLMAO !
But I can hear the law suits firing up already, almost certainly from “Lord” Monckton, and just possibly from Sacha Baron Cohen. Mind you, I suspect that SBC would get the joke, and it’s actually being rather flattering to his style of comedy.
[I just did some checking ; Viscount (not Lord) Christopher Monckton is one of the relatively small number of people to have successfully sued Private Eye for libel.]

    1. Viscounts are lords, you shouldn’t call him “Lord Christopher” though, you should call him “Lord Monckton”. “Lord Christopher” would mean he was the son of a peer at or above the rank of Earl, not a peer himself, which he is.

      1. It is good to keep abreast of the tin foil hat pecking order. There are very few things an American can feel superior about these days, but this is one of them.

  4. Come the day of revolution, Monckton will be on my list.

If anyone has online access to the Sunday Times, can someone send Jerry, Greg or Matthew the story on page 12 of the paper, “Muslim medics boycott lectures on Darwin” by Jack Grimston. Prof. Steve Jones among others says this is happening increasingly AT UCL due to the rise of muslim creationism.

  5. Ah, we are celebrating Oztralia! Our comics are some of the best with a fine line in irreverence, and able to extract the Michael – ie ‘pull the Mickey’. Monckton is one of the most despicable, and thoroughly deserves it.

  6. The Chaser rules!

Though, in this case, they really didn’t have to put much thought or effort into their sketch: Monckton is a living caricature of an aristocratic, right-wing loon.
