Ah, Fox News is back to normal. In a discussion of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, Brit Hume says it’s a lot of fuss about very little.
“Where’s the oil? It’s not on—except for little chunks of it, you’re not even seeing it on the shores yet.”
“But you know one of the greatest source of oil that seeps into the ocean is—is from natural seepage from underground, from subterranean deposits. That’s where most of it comes from—not from drilling accidents. So what’s badly needed here is perspective on our energy policy, and also on the hard realities of what really goes on when it comes to oil spills.”
“The ocean absorbs a lot, a lot, the ocean absorbs a lot.”
I think he’s right about natural seepage, but it doesn’t come in huge gushers that befoul the shores and kill wildlife.
I agree: the ocean will absorb the oil. People forget that it has all those sponges in it.
OK, We can just wait and see. If the shores get polluted and the fish, crustacean, sponges, corals, jellyfish, birds and other wildlife die by the millions then the remainder of the oil can be thrust down the throats and up the butts of Brit Hume and Rush Limbaugh.
Is that “THINK PROGRESS” logo ironic?
You know what they say about oil and water: they mix great, and then the oil just evaporates.
Is from FAUX to FAIL news really progress in thinking?! Next they will take those bacterial communities they have discovered in some natural tar pits for a ride: “see, life even thrives on that stuff, it must be harmless!” No harm, no oil fouling.
Dimwit Hume is subjecting this event to a cost/benefit analysis? Wow.
No, Think Progress is not ironic. It’s the logo of a (US-ian politically) liberal blog that specializes in publisizing stupid shit like this.
The prominent brown stain on Brit Hume’s nose is not oil, apparently.
Not only Fox.
NPR has a report that takes a similar view.

Ken Ringle was also interviewed on BBC, making the same points but I do not have a link.
What’s the fuss?
19% of the Gulf’s fisheries have been closed due to the oil spill.
That would be like closing Manhattan from 13th street to the Staten Island Ferry terminal.
Surely, no fuss involved there. Nope. None whatsoever.
Asshat.
It’s like urine…. it leaks all around in little amounts from scattered wildlife… So what could possibly be wrong with a pipeline, full of it, gushing buckets every sec? >.<
So maybe Britt Hume wants all of the raindrops that hit him in his entire lifetime to hit him all at once?
I take it he’s never seen the “oil-drop-and-cup-of-water” experiment. Or read anything about it. Or even seen a drop of material that can be considered “oil”.
