International Cat Day: Readers’ cats

August 19, 2013 • 4:41 am

Fully cognizant that this is the third post in a row that’s displayed a cat, I nevertheless continue my presentation of the cat photos and anecdotes sent in for International Cat Day.

The first cat may be familiar to long-time readers. Meryln, owned by reader “daveau”, has a gorgeous coat and, I have to say, the prettiest eyes on a cat I’ve ever seen.

Here’s our boy Merlyn, if you are so inclined to add him. His 3rd birthday is the 23rd. I can’t believe it has been that long.

Merlyn

Linda Grilli, who raises goats and has, I believe, six cats (four of them black) submits the cat with the cleverest name among all the entrants (she also has another called Picatso):

Here is Clawed Monet. He is clearly the World’s Coldest Cat. He actually has a lot more orange on him than you can see in this picture.  Most of his left side is orange spots.

And the last cat for today:

Paul A Davies (but not that one) makes breakthrough in cat hypnosis. The subject is Jasper, 4-month-old Red Maine Coon.

If you submitted a cat, it will appear; be patient.

      1. The neighborhood kids are all spooked by his eyes. It’s pretty funny.

Spelling is OK; he can’t spell, either. He answers to “Dubby” or “Mister Boy”.

  1. Love that Maine Coon! My brother was recently adopted by a Maine Coon X. He turned up in the garden very hungry. We advertised and the owners were eventually found. The cat had travelled about 7 or 8 kilometers from his home and had been missing for several weeks! Since the owners weren’t too fussed about having him back, ‘Wilson’ was renamed ‘Leo’ and flown to his new home in Wellington. He’s a huge and gentle boy – very affectionate!

      1. I believe rareflightlessbird is from New Zealand, and you may replace “fussed about” with “interested in” or “concerned about” to get the sense of the sentence.

  2. Clawed Monet looks like he sitting on his private temple, waiting for someone to bring an offering.

(My first cat had a “shrine” in our old rental apartment. She sat very close to the small gas heater that was built into the wall. I had to block her access so she wouldn’t set her long hair on fire.)

  3. The third cat post in a row: no need to apologise, can’t have too many cat posts. These are all gorgeous cats.

  4. Oh, man, I just love all these cats. They’re all so special, aren’t they?

If we could, we would re-register Merlynus as Merlynus T. Devil. The “T” stands for Trouble. Wish him a happy birthday Friday, as he officially becomes a growed-up cat.

  5. Following International Cat Day and the photos you’ve featured it reminded me of Lucy, Luigi before we realised he(!) was pregnant. When eventually her time came rather than go away someplace private to give birth she quite deliberately jumped up into my lap and produced two little kittens and stayed put for quite some hours. Is this usual behaviour for a cat. My preferance is for dogs, and particularly cocker spaniels,so I’m not too well up on cats.

  6. 1) Hi David. 🙂 Been needing a Merlyn update! I actually feel as if I’ve ‘known’ him for so long, it’s hard to believe he’s only turning 3. Stunning as ever!

    2) Linda, that looks like a fine art print! Great capture, cute kitteh.

    3) Aw-with-100-w’s!

    1. Thanks, Diane. It’s always been those eyes. It does seem like so long ago…

I enjoyed your babies from last week.

  7. What is it about cats and humans? Once they get under your skin you just cant help yourself. Our little cat is called Elsie but she lives on her nerves and absolutely loaths Socks, who lives next door.
