Jerry has previously blogged written (ha! he’ll be furious when he gets back) about sexual parasitism in the angler fish and camouflage in frogfish but he’s never shown this zefrank video, which has got over 6 million hits on YouTube IN THE LAST FIVE DAYS (can that be right?). It tells you TRUE FACTS about the Angler fish (and Frogfish which are a kind of Angler fish). Enjoy.

    1. I’m afraid it’s already Thor’s day for me, but since I have no hammer a laugh will do.

  1. One of the weird/creepy Gould essays is the one on anglerfish. For some reason he thought it would be some kind of secret fetish fantasy for men to live half-fused to a woman like a parasitic male anglerfish. Creeeeeeepy.

    1. I believe you may be referring to rule 34, if it exists there is porn of it. It will be somebody’s weird sexual fetish, I guarantee it.

  2. Entertaining, but was it accurate? I didn’t spot any obvious mistakes, but I figure there must be an anglerfish expert out there in Jerry’s readership who could give us inside info.

    1. I’m not an expert, but I didn’t spot any obvious errors there (except for the metaphorical statement about leggings). It’s pretty damn good!

  3. I think I saw it on HuffPo (don’t worry, I was just there for the naked pictures), so that’s one reason why it received so many hits.

  4. I always thought “true facts” is kind of superfluous. If it’s a fact then surely by definition it must be true, if it isn’t true it isn’t a fact.

Umm, which has the crappier life, a male angler fish or a male praying mantis? Hard to say. At least the mantis gets to have sex once before he dies, while the angler fish is effectively braindead before he ever does his thing. OK, so I’m anthropomorphising them both.
