  1. Richard, Happy birthday to you from South Africa, and of course, many happy returns of the day.

  2. I believe what Jerry is referring to is that Richard has been alive for 7 decades and starting his 8th (I’m sure if you think about it you’ll sort it out), not that he’s 80. Richard is 70 this year.

I’d like to thank Richard for making me realise that it’s ok to be an atheist and to be happy being one. 🙂 Also for bringing back my love of science. 🙂

  3. Im pretty sure J.C. meant 71
I’m one of those whose life has been thoroughly embued with the courage and conviction that Dawkins so eloquently conveys.

I had vacillated on the fence for years until G. Carlin, R. Dawkins, Harris and Hitch suddenly surged into my life and yanked me from my periluous boggle and onto the safety of their intellectual highground.

Thank you Richard for your seduluous fight against unreason.

  4. In addition to what you’ve said, Jerry, Richard inspired me to pursue my dream of becoming a writer.

    Happy Birthday, Richard!

  5. I will add my congrats to Richard on happily celebrating the beginning of another decade “on the right side of the grass”. Ten years from now I hope to do it again. And let’s all take a moment to think of Christopher and pass along our wishes that he is around to help keep us honest for at least another decade, too.
Jerry says he is understandably proud to call Richard his friend. I’m pleased that I was able to shake Richard’s hand and speak with him briefly (too briefly) at a book signing in Houston a few months ago. I had a question concerning his relationship with his friend Lawrence Krauss (one of my favorite authors and speakers) and Richard was kind enough to stop and answer it honestly and chat for just a bit. Richard, you are truly a gentleman and a scholar. We need a lot more like you, but I’m fearful that the mold was broken.
    Stan
