No readers’ wildlife today

January 23, 2026 • 8:15 am

Yes, ’tis true: I’ve run out of readers’ photographs and there will be no more such posts until I get some good photos.

In the meantime, have a photo of one of last spring’s ducklings, all grown up and zooming around on Botany Pond, learning to take off and fly:

Spring is coming!

  1. Great photo for this

Maybe a new extension of the series –

    Readers’ Wildlife Photos – Reprise

… kind of musical.. or as Jimi Hendrix might have put it :

    Readers’ Wildlife Photos (Slight Return)

  2. I have a bunch of photos of flowers and critters from a trip to Sri Lanka that might be of interest. But I am no photographer*; they were all made with a cell phone. I’ll gather them and send them along; I have no expectations that they will be good enough. I will ask my wife to help me sort through for the best.

*mostly because I have bad eyesight. If they made LARGE PRINT cameras screens, I might have done better.

    1. I sympathise. A while ago I took some photos that I thought might be good enough for WEIT. I had fairly advanced cataracts at the time. After that was resolved (thank you NHS, spectacular improvement with no direct cost to me) I noticed that some of the close-ups were out of focus. I could not see the problem while framing the shots.

  3. This is the happiest duck I’ve ever seen. What a great capture of the “zooming” behavior you have mentioned in your posts.

I have a suggestion for days when you have no reader’s photos. I could give you your late reader Andreas Kay’s hard drive, and you could harvest from this for all your life and never run out. If he were alive he would be sending you some of them, as he did with his photos of Atelopus coynei. He would like the idea that his photographs were being seen. When he was near death, he gave me permission to distribute them (with proper credit) for educational use.
