Send in your cat photos!

December 23, 2025 • 7:30 am

This will be the final reminder to send in your photo of cats with a Christmas theme (or Hanukkah theme, as we now have several Jewish cats).  The instructions are here and we have now acquired more than fifty photos for posting. (Note: no AI pictures like the ones I made below.)

Remember, one photo per submission, please! It should be holiday-themed and have a few words about the moggy, including its name. Also your name of pseudonym. (No videos, please, as I can’t embed them.)

I’ll make the deadline 9 a.m. December 24; Christmas and Koynezaa Eve. The cats will be posted on Christmas Day.

And here’s an interfaith celebration (Hanukkah is over now):

. . . and of course we can’t forget the atheist cats!:

  1. AI? I used Google AI and I got this:

Koynezaa appears to be a playful, made-up holiday name, likely a portmanteau of “Kwanzaa” and “Christmas,” used by science communicator Andy Carvin (of Why Evolution Is True) for a themed photo contest for people’s cats, specifically around late December, inviting submissions for holiday-themed feline pictures for his blog. It’s not a traditional holiday, but a fun online event for cat lovers!.

AI! Makes assignments easy, sure to get an A, don’t you agree, uh…Andy?

(maybe someone already did this and I missed it)

  2. I want to see the cats! But I’m liking the AI selections as well.

The AI bots seem to have trouble getting the Chanukiah (Menorah) right—or maybe it’s an inside joke—but I suppose they can be forgiven. After all, even the Jews themselves can’t decide how to spell the name of the holiday. Is it Hanukkah, Chanukah (my favorite), Hanukka, Channuka, or what? There seem to be 101 ways to spell the name of this minor (but fun) Jewish holiday: https://israelapparel.co/blogs/all-about-israel/101-ways-to-spell-hanukkah-a-festival-of-lights-and-spellings.

  3. Love the AIs, credit to the “Prompt artist” who did them. This an exciting new idea in art. All for it.

I tried to send in a picture of my “identify as cat” pet but for some reason the boss nixed it. (sniff).
Why can’t my Australian Shepherd (who is, undeniably a good boy…) identify as a cat? Beginning to think the host is a speciesist.
