Readers’ wildlife photos

We have at least one active Green Heron (Butorides virescens) on our retirement community campus, Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA. Sometimes the bird cooperates and I can get decent photos. Here are several:

  1. Nice shots. It’s tough to get a Green Heron to pose for you. Every time I see one they are hidden in the reeds. Thanks for sharing.

  2. These are great pics. It’s so hard to photograph birds at all, much less get their “facial” expressions. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Comparing the first and last pics, I marvel at how they manage to make that long neck simply disappear.

    Green Herons are considered tool users. They sometimes use small bits of bread to lure fish within striking distance. One example from YT:
