What every American President liked to eat

More video today!  This one, of course, was suggested to me by YouTube, since I watch a lot of food videos as well as history videos. And it’s exactly the kind of video that I would have to click on, as it lists the favorite foods of every American President.

Here are the Presidents who, in my view, had the best taste (you’ll have to watch to see their favorites):

Thomas Jefferson
James Madison
James Monroe
John Tyler
James K. Polk
Abraham Lincoln
Ulysses S. Grant
Teddy Roosevelt
William Howard Taft
Woodrow Wilson
Lyndon Johnson***
Jimmy Carter

LBJ gets the kudos for liking the best dish, and, looking over the list, I see that it’s weighted with Presidents who liked Southern food. No surprise, as it’s America’s best regional cuisine.  They do mention a McDonald’s Filet O’ Fish as Trump’s favorite, but I thought he liked Big Macs better. Either way, he doesn’t make the list.

  1. Is this for specifically when they were in office?

If I was Taft, with access to that pro-grade kitchen, I might get as many steaks in before my time in office was up!

  2. Buchanan was not only the worst President (before Trump) but sauerkraut. Yuk. No taste. LBJ great. Ike great, and who can turn down great chili.

  3. There’s a guy on Instagram that I watch every once in a while who prepares and eats what one president would have normally eaten in a day. His handle is CookinWithCongress. Some are awful, like Mary Todd Lincoln’s favorite: Tongue in aspic. It can be quite amusing.

    1. Reminds me of one of UK comedian Ken Dodd’s old jokes:

An elderly female relative is seated at the table for a wedding feast when the waiter brings her a plate containing tongue.

“Young man, I could never eat anything that has been in an animal’s mouth!”

So they replaced the tongue with a boiled egg.

Boom tish! I’m here all week, folks!
