Today’s Jesus and Mo strip, called “latter,”, came with a list of Qur’anic verses:
And yes, what Jesus says is true, as is his riposte when Mo explains abrogation. This is one of the issues that’s an Achilles Heel for Islam, as is the statement by Jesus (Matthew 16:28):
Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
Jesus, you didn’t come back! (Of course theologians can parse the verse so it appears metaphorical.)

I enjoy these Jesus and Mo cartoons… thanks for reminding us of them now and again. Is that canned wine cooler the two boys are drinking? More serious question: I thought that depicting the prophet is a major sin – in fundamentalist Islam, anyway – that’s gotten lots of people into trouble, even killed. How can this author get away with it so easily? How can you get away with it so easily, reproducing these comics? Why have I not heard any uproar about them?
Iirc one of the early cartoons revealed that Mo was a “body double.” That bit of obscurity wouldn’t save it from blasphemy charges, however. Those I think were more prevalent when it first came out, though I doubt that any mainstream paper would run it even now.
I once had a Jesus n Mo t-shirt which showed the two characters giving their names and saying “Hi.” About as innocuous as one could get, but the original cartoon had been condemned by some huffy Muslim group.
That tee shirt caused a huge fracas in London when it was sold by an atheist group at a Fresher’s Fair at the London School of Economics. They kicked out the group, but then had to apologize.

The creator of this brilliant series goes to great lengths to remain anonymous. Entirely understandable but of course sad that they can’t publicly acknowledge their authorship.
No, it’s Guinness.
