Readers’ wildlife photos

We’ve been saved by the submission of two batches of photos, and as I go to South Africa for a month next week, photo posting will pause. I hope people will accumulate photos to send here during my absence (I will of course try to post.

Attached are photos of various species of birds from my local area that I’ve taken this year between March and June. These photos were taken within a 120-mile radius of my home in Bay City on the central Texas coast (more or less equidistant between Houston and Corpus Christi).

  1. Thanks Damon. A nice collection. This view of the Willet does favor its deep dinosaur heritage…i guess I am still a phenotypic guy in some sense.

  2. Ah yes, definite coastal feel to these … moving from inland to shore .. love that… can almost hear it!

  3. A nice group of photos. I have always enjoyed watching birds that forage along the shore. I get a kick out of your dunlin tip-toeing across the sand—looks a bit like it is wearing high-heeled shoes.

  6. Wonderful photos, thank you! The southern US avifauna has such an enticing, “you’re almost in the tropics” allure. Like those whistling ducks and caracaras, for example.

  9. Look at those birdies just walkin’ along the shore. The Dunlin and the Sanderling are great. For some reason they made me chuckle. Thanks for these. More good stuff from Texas!
