        1. I LOVED that movie!! Probably seen it 3 or more times. Was glad to see it on DVD with subtitles to understand all the accents, especially Brad Pitt’s made-up Parky accent (which I had first heard as Paki.). So many hilarious scenes (open up the dog, par exemple).

          1. I think it’s “Pikey”, a derogatory term for Travellers/gypsies, used (I believe) largely in the south of England.

          2. Yes, I think you’re right thst it’s Pikey, P:). What’s a poor North American to make of a word like thst? Does it come from turnpike?

        1. I think that was actually in So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish which was book 3 of the five in the Hitchhiker trilogy.

          Just to split hairs…

  1. Evolution you say! Sorry to be so pedantic It says history, what’s more, history as a fairytale narrative. Nowhere near as complex as evolution, (why am i telling you all this?) which is why in part, these poor religious saps can’t cope with it, it requires a little thinking it through to arrive at the last panel.

  2. In lieu of indoctrinating babies and toddlers with these gods, those gods, this or that god, enhance their curiosity about real events.

  3. On the subject of the “magic invisible animals in the sky”, there is more and more evidence that there were some fairly significant and quite visible things things in the sky in the form of comets and other bodies appearing from time to time that probably had meaningful impacts on human societies, myths, and religions.

There was a recent paper published on Sholz’s Star and calculations that it disturbed the Oort cloud. It has long been known that Comet Encke (or its parent body) broke up during the time that AMH inhabited the planet.

Think of how humans of just 5 or 6 centuries past would have reacted if something like the Tunguska event had happened over a populated area.

  4. Jerry, what about the Pope’s comments that Hell doesn’t actually exist (unrepentant souls just disappear). Then the Vatican quickly backpeddling his remarks. The Pope seems kind of smart & literate, but he’s like the Donald Trump of Popes with his comments. People look at his remarks and say “Oh, that’s just Francis”.

  5. It seems that as sciences progresses, there’s less and less for the supernatural to explain. I don’t entirely rule out the existence of the supernatural, since quantum physics allows for the existence of other dimensions/realities. However, it doesn’t seem to have as much influence over this dimension as our ancestors seemed to have thought.

    1. What I hold for sure (and reassuring) is that such a supernatural being will not be like the demanding Jewish/Christian/Muslim God.

  6. Adulterers in churches and pornography in the schools
You got gangsters in power and lawbreakers making rules.
When you gonna wake up, when you gonna wake up
When you gonna wake up strengthen the things that remain ?
Spiritual advisors and gurus to guide your every move
Instant inner peace and every step you take has got to be approved.
When you gonna wake up, when you gonna wake up
When you gonna wake up strengthen the things that remain ?

  7. The series left out a number of places where the myriad of gods were alleged to have dwelled, like trees and the planets, etc. As humans learned more about these various objects and places the gods had to relocate ever farther away. That ever increasing distance has finally reached about 43 billion light years (no doubt to be even farther away in the future).

The current idiot pope claims that his god created the big bang (which was not an explosion, as often incorrectly depicted) and scientists are not allowed to look beyond that! As though the scientific community has to follow the popes moronic directions about what to study. In past times studying disease would have been forbidden, because it’s caused by demons!

Remember that a particularly stupid form of obscurantism – apologetics – was invented by theologians trying to defend their inbred idiocy. Once people buy into *magic* as an “explanation” there is no bottom to the levels of stupidity that can be reached.
