Yesterday was check-in and an evening social for the Imagine No Religion meeting in Toronto; it’s in the Airport Sheraton, so I doubt I’ll see anything of this lovely city.
The speakers did get nice rooms, though:
. . .with nice bathrooms. I LOVE hotels and have never gotten over the luxury of staying in one:
A kindly reader came up to me and gave me two bottles of Riesling in a wooden box, with the bottles shaped like cats! What a treat!
Self portrait with Hawaiian shirt:
Robyn Blumner, president and CEO of the the U.S. Center for Inquiry, with Leonard Tramiel, a physicist on the CfI board of directors.
The evening social had a poutine station, so my trip for dinner poutine was unnecessary. Here’s Richard Dawkins helping himself to poutine. The talks start in earnest today; the schedule is here. I speak Sunday at 2 pm.
Jerry, I don’t think your shirt is working in that bathroom picture. Mind the mirrors.
That’s on purpose. I wasn’t wearing a shirt when I took it, but the reflections were deliberate.
Very clearly, it seems to me … š
Well, it’s not motel 6, that’s for sure.
Nice Hawaiian shirt, boss. Jimmy Buffet, Thomas Magnum, “Prew” Prewitt (Montgomery Clift’s character in From Here to Eternity), and I all approve.
Jimmy “Buffett,” gd spellcheck.
Looks like a lot of fun. I’m still miffed that the local regressive left ideologues drove this excellent event out of Vancouver.
They did? What happened?
I like nice hotels too but my wife can’t sleep well in them. Toronto is my town of birth but I’ve not been back for a Procyon lotor’s age. I should return to my roots and stay at some good Air B&Bs. I wonder if Canadian B&Bs serves breakfast. In the US they usually provides only instant coffee with possibly a bagel while the rest of the world seems to heap on the victuals.
Sounds like that would just be a B.
That Riesling is SO COOL. I’m going to have to find some of that. Is “Vintages” the actual name of the wine company?
No. That refers to a section in the liquor store that you can pick up a bottle of vintage wine. https://www.worldmarket.com/product/moselland-cat-riesling-orange-or-black.do
I figured no wine company would have a name so cliche and bland as “Vintages.” Thanks for the info!
Cheers!
Leonard Tramiel’s father founded Commodore and bought Atari. He’s filling in some huge shoes.
A Hawaiian shirt in Toronto, huh? I hope you have a polartec fleece jacket to go with that.
Leonard Tramiel has come to our local sceptic meetups in Silicon Valley.
Great shirt Jerry! š
It seems there was no public advertisement for this event. Sad I missed attending the event and listening to all speakers
