Wow. I assume a sea otter?
Nope. River otter. Lontra canadensis Not that they don’t inhabit coastal marine waters as well. I saw a pair of them just yesterday swimming in the chuk. They like the way the jetty’s rip-rap rocks have gaps that are great for dens.
As to its future, I don’t know how well it will do as an adult in a domestic environment or whether it could ever go back to the wild.
Correction. Pip is an Asian small-clawed otter.Amblonyx cinerea is one of several binomials attributed to it.
That’s great. Lots of river otters in Iowa where I use to live.
The UK species (singular or plural, I’m not sure) of otter is also happy to exploit marine and fresh environments. They’re often to be seen in coastal regions close to river mouths.
