Here is the first of two humorous videos I’ll post this afternoon because I can’t brain today.

As far as I can tell, this woman is serious.

    2. I think it’s a troll as well … at least I hope it is. If not, it’s a pretty dysfunctional and possibly abusive relationship. Brad seems like an asshat, to put it mildly.

      In any case, this seems like humor based on classist stereotypes (chavette, basic girl, Essex girl, dumb pretty woman, whatever you choose to label Jen with), which isn’t at all funny to me, to be honest.

  3. I SO want this woman to be deadpan! That would make this hilarious in a classic British fashion. But, alas, it’s a different kind of hilarity because, yes, the woman does appear to be serious. Incredible.

    1. It seems to me an act. She just about bursts out laughing a couple of times. It’s surely a version of the classic Spinal Tap scene with amplifiers that go up to 11.

        – EH ?! Please give the TWO times she ‘almost’ does (as in the minutes and seconds of each occasion). I skimmed through it again for a cursory check – saw nothing of the sort ! So, again, please give me those TWO times she ‘almost’…

        2. The other giveaway is that the ridicule from the cameraman would be seriously un-cool if this were for real, but ok if he were in on the joke.

    1. I’m a fricking GENIUS! I didn’t know that second video existed! On the other hand, I’m starting to suspect that this is just a gigantic, well-acted bit. Seriously, she can’t see Minnie and Mickey any more?

      1. I’ve seen this, and I think it might be really good acting. In the comments when I saw this was one about “all the videos” this guy puts out.

        That said, I do know people who regularly say stuff this stupid.

    2. So, if it IS an act, then I think the EUref video is unhelpful because it contributes to a narrative that Leave voters are just dumb, rather than people with a genuine grievance.

      To clarify, I think that Leavers have been misled into choosing a false and extremely destructive solution. But by definition, 52% cannot be below average intelligence.

      1. 52% can be below average intelligence because there was a 70% turnout. More of the non-voters might be above average.

        However, while I’m very much in the remain camp, there are genuine reasons why a person might have chosen leave. However I also think it’s clear that a majority of those who voted leave were motivated by lies or fear or both.

        1. I do think that not voting on a crucial question is not very intelligent. I know plenty of people who are too posh to vote, then whine for 4 years that a crappy government elected by the scum is ruling them.

          1. Completely agree! Just before NZ’s last election (Nov 2014) I even wrote a post dissing all the reasons people give for not voting.

        Quite the contrary! It all depends on the distribution.

        Imagine there’s a bank with 100 customers. Of those 100, 99 of them have balances of exactly $1. The remaining customer has a balance of one miiiiiiiiiilion dollars. The average balance is $10,000, and 99% of the customer has a balance that’s all of 0.000001% of the average balance. At the same time, the median balance is, by the most common method of calculation, exactly $1.

        Human intelligence, however you care to measure it, tends to follow a bell curve distribution. But, even so, it’s not difficult for 52% of voters to be below average intelligence.

        …and, when you consider the percentages of Americans who’re unable to correctly identify the amount of time it takes the Earth to orbit the Sun, for example, and couple that with widespread reports of overt xenophobia coming from Britain right now…well, it’s all to sad to contemplate how the Brexit vote could very well be an accurate reflection of serious cognitive impairment on the part of a majority of Brits.

        …just as Drumpf’s popularity here in the States is a similar condemnation of the American intellectual state of affairs, I should add! Nor is it unique to our time in history, as Germany demonstrated in the 1930s….

          And that’s why we have representatives to crank the gears of government for us – we trust them more than the population as a whole. 😎

          5 people are in a bar. 4 are subsistence farmers and the fifth is Bill Gates. The average income in the bar is now about $16 billion. But 4 out of the 5 people have below average income.

      4. Less than 10% of a population can lead the other 90% into doing some rather grievous things, regardless of how smart or dumb they are. Unfurl the right flag and utter the right words and even the brightest can think, “Is this really happening?”

      5. I think you are confusing the average with the median. More than 50% of a population can be above or below the average.

    1. This other video confirms that this woman is as dumb as a bag of hammers. Her friend Brad knows that she’s a dim bulb, and so he can’t resist asking her questions and recording her answers for posterity.

  11. Maybe a little long. It’s similar to that often asked question — where did they bury the survivors? Who’s buried in Grant’s Tomb?

  13. Not sure, but one thing that suggests to me it’s a gag is just the fact the girlfriend
    starts with the assumption she could or would eat a whole, large pizza. That in itself seems extremely unusual, especially for a woman (I don’t even think I’ve ever seen a guy finish a large pizza himself).

    But the gag depends on the person eating the whole pizza, since otherwise the person would just eat a couple slices either way and the whole “you’d be eating the same amount however you slice it” doesn’t work.

    So, just the fact she’s not questioning the idea of eating a whole large pizza herself, and speaks like she’d have no problem if it were cut into 8 slices, seems suspicious.

  14. It really doesn’t matter if the video is a fake, or not: I know, from personal experience, people who ARE that clueless and the video to me is an uncomfortable reminder of that. As George Carlin put it: “Pick out a person that you consider to be of ‘average’ intelligence- then realize that half the people in this country are dumber than HE is!” Particularly scary in an election year…..

  15. I have to come down on the side of acting. I don’t think she’d even be able to eat eight normal-sized slices. If this wasn’t a joke she’d have told Brad that the choice between eight or twelve doesn’t matter; she’d only be able to handle four, five max.

    1. I thought it was hysterical, but I had to press my credulity away as she said she could eat eight. I still consume 3500+ calories a day and I would be hard pressed to eat a whole medium pizza nowadays.

  17. This makes more sense if you’ve ever seen the stacks of ready-made segments in boxes in the frozen food section of the supermarket. She’s (probably) thinking of identical machine-made slices like that. Which fits perfectly with the chav image.
    (Is this one of the “Essex Girls” who occupy large parts of the advertising-driven channels on TV?)

    1. A pizza chain in Canada used to sell 8-slice and 12-slice pizzas. That was their nomenclature for pizza sizes. And the spoken word “large” is ambiguous, meaning either “big” or “Large” as a specific size. Taken together, she could be answering the question, “if you ordered a big pizza, would you order the 8-slice or the 12-slice?”.

      1. Here in Ottawa a lot of places actually give the diameter, so you have some idea how much pizza you’re getting. And today *is* Tau day, so …

        1. The diameter is sufficient only in Flatland. If you really want to know, you also need the density…which you can get just as easily from the total mass (or total nutrient count for whatever measure you care for). Height (and thus volume) might be a suitable proxy.

          Might seem like nit-picking, but plenty of people who’d have no trouble eating half of an 18″ New York-style thin-crust pizza would be hard pressed to finish an entire 8″ Chicago-style deep dish pizza, even though the latter has less than a quarter the area.

  18. I think it is quite obvious that she is acting. As a commenter noted above you see her almost break into a chuckle at 1:15, but she swiftly recovers.

    2. The fun is when you first see the material and can’t be sure. After that, it IS boring and infantile. But we are all pretty boring most of the time anyway, and we were all infants once. Give ’em a break. 😉
