Wednesday: Hili dialogue (and Leon lagniappe)

August 19, 2015 • 6:30 am

Wednesday already? It’s Hump Day, but as that might be considered a microagression, I won’t dwell on it. Let’s just say there are two more days to the weekend. Meanwhile in Dobrzyn, Hilis has had a fright—or a vision. She’s confused, but how she could mistake a wino for an angel eludes me. Here expression is priceless (and her tail is bushed):

Hili: Is it an angel or a wino?
A: A wino.
Hili: Good. I was already starting to be afraid.

In Polish:

Hili: Czy to anioł, czy pijaczek?
Ja: Pijaczek.
Hili: To dobrze, bo już się przestraszyłam

And we have special lagniappe today: not only a photo of Leon, whose hiking vacation is ending, but one of Hili and Cyrus cavorting with Hania, the delightful daughter of the boarder upstairs. I am promised that, when I arrive in Dobrzyn in October, Cyrus will be transferred from that sofa (where he usually sleeps with Hili), so that I can have some quality time with Her Highness.

And even more lagniappe: Leon and his staff return tomorrow from their mountain adventures, but we have a penultimate Leon monologue:

Leon: I’m going to rest here a moment.

  1. If we have a hump day, should there not be a dip day too? We could all sit around with some pitta bread & guacamole dips!

  2. I know that those good folks of Middle Eastern descent can be offended by camels but what about poor college students stopped in their tracks by the mere mention of a ‘hump day’?

  3. All great pics, but I especially love the look on Hili’s wee face.

I always do a bit of a double take at “hump” day. Here in NZ it’s an unsophisticated slang term for sex, although not one I’ve ever used personally. I’d never heard Wednesday called that before I read this website, and it takes me a split second to remind myself what’s meant every time I see it. When I heard about camels in association with the day, the pause was even longer. By the time I also had to work why someone from the Middle East might be upset, we’re up to a couple of seconds. It’s all quite hard work! 🙂

    1. I took some lumps with the humps too. Especially – I would like to remember* – since the subject came up in the middle of a busy week…

      * I.e. I totally just made that up!

    2. PS. I wonder if cats have tax – or life – collectors. Hili looks like one just crossed her paths!
