I’ve decided that Saturday’s edition of RWP will henceforth be shorter than usual, as this day always includes a special cat feature. But although the quantity of readers’ photos may fall on Caturdays, the quality will not.
Reader Colin Campbell contributed four bird photos using an unusual camera rig:
Here are several pictures taken this winter in the south of France for the photo rain barrel. They were all taken on an iphone 5 mounted on a Lego stand and operated from behind the curtains with the headphone cable! They are the Eurasian Blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus), European Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis carduelis), great tit (Parus major) and greenfinch (Chloris chloris). The blue tit and European goldfinches are the most common visitors to the feeder on the windowsill in winter. The goldfinches are rather garrulous and argumentative and frequently come in mobs of a dozen. All are lovely to contemplate.
I’ve put the photographs in random order, so you get the chance to match the birds listed above with their photos. This should be a cakewalk for most readers here.

That is one well composed close photo. As a photographer I feel that anything is interesting if looked at closely enough. These photos bear this out.
1. Parus major (Koolmees)
2. Chloris chloris (Geelgors)
3. Carduelis carduelis carduelis (Puttertje)
4. Cyanistes caeruleus (Pimpelmees)
For no reason at all (except that it is Saturday), I added the names in my language (Dutch).
Ooo I would be interested in seeing this whole lego stand thing.
It was impressive! I am the photograupher’s mother and the photos were taken from my bedroom window. Somewhere there is a photo of a red squirrel (sciurus vulgaris)? feeding below feeder hanging in the frosty willow tree in the background. Must find that photo.
I have about 100 lbs of Lego in our basement. So, hmmm….
(Or is it Legos???
Maybe is Legoi (λεγοι) 🙂
Hi Diana.
Haha
It’s Lego, and the toilet paper goes over. 🙂
Like all The best lego thngies, it has long since been recycled into a house or sauropod. This designer, however, feels the urge to increase the specified complexity of Lego thingies in subsequent generations! We shall see.
Oops, blockhead; that anonymous comment is me responding to Diana. Maybe I should leggo this thread.
You know…it likely wouldn’t take but a little bit more ingenuity to set that contraption up as an automated camera blind with a rocker switch underneath the food bowl that triggered the camera….

What great shots! Lots to study on each bird, there. Love the Blue Tit with its cocked head…
Very nice, you must have an excellent hide.
