Today, Stephen Barnard is back with a passel of photos from Idaho.
First, we have three ways of looking at a black-billed magpie (Pica hudsonia):
This is a super common bird, but in my opinion one of the hardest birds to capture. They’re smart, wary, and fast.
And Desi, one of the two bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) nesting on Stephen’s land (its mate is named Lucy):
Housekeeping. He’s bringing in new nest material and taking away old material.
And, for fun, a helicopter:
Stop action on rotors at 1/8000 sec.

So, I love Lucy. Very nice pictures.
Oh those magpies! Great shots of an under appreciated bird: back home in Northern Nevada, they were in charge of keeping the raids “sail rabbit free. This involved
I feel like the helicopter will fall out of the sky.
Great photos.
I always enjoy Stephen’s wildlife pictures.
Desi: I hope that’ll keep her happy.
Amazing that the 1/8000 doesn’t quite stop the tail rotor!
Nice photos, as always, thanks!
BB Magpies may be “super common” in Idaho, but in southern CA they’re as scarce and crow’s teeth. Thanks for the shots.
As ever I am green with envy at the photographic ability of the readers who submit these pictures.
Can I put in a request that, where possible, a description of the equipment used is added.
