  1. Hmmmm are they beast feet or leaves that look like beast feet? It does look like there are legs going up to the shadow….so if they are leaves that’s a good illusion.

  2. I’ve heard about these kinds of graduate comprehensive exams, but I just assumed they were apocryphal.

So, a grad student goes into class for his ornithology final exam with a notoriously difficult professor, only to find that the prof has set up specimens that are completely covered except for the feet and legs. The test was that students were supposed to identify the species by only viewing the feet. “This is ridiculous!” cried the grad student. “Forget it, I’m leaving!”

The professor stopped him, saying, “What’s your name, young man? I’m going to have to removed from the program.”

The grad student lifted his pant legs, exposing his ankles and replied, “You tell me.”

  3. I first thought duck but I bet the gull people are right. What I liked about duck was the complete reversal of what we’re usually aware of. Which is the way life often turns out.

        1. I always get that group confused with some actress bint with a name like “Charlize Therron” or something like that (I don’t even think about attempting to keep up on what-do-they-call-it, “goss”.)

  4. I believe we are looking at a sky light. Some junk lying around and a couple of pieces of leaves.

  5. A critique of some misguided suggestions. Pigeons have no webs. Coots have “flaps”, not webs. The shape of the shadow above the feet is too trim for a duck (or pelican). Ergo, it’s a gull.

    1. I went with “pelican” because it was the least likely possibility that I could think of that was still a bird with webbed feet. The position of the legs under the body and the general shape of the body outline make it unlikely to be anything other than some type of gull.
