Two cats for Tuesday

Posting will be light today as I have writing to do. (Don’t I always say that? Yet posting is aways fairly normal).

First, from Off the Mark, courtesy of reader Diane G.

For some reason this reminds me of the story of Mohammed, his cat Muezza, and his prayer robe.

And we have this awesome T. rex felid from reader Samuel. This was almost enough to inspire me to have another contest, but response to the “cat beard competition” was too tepid.

This would have been the most fearsome of the dinos, but also the cutest:

  1. The first comic is one of the reasons why I wouldn’t make a very good burglar.

  2. Obviously then, Mohammed had his good points. He also had a winged horse. Cool. He certainly outranks Big J, who is not on record (so far as I know, which is not much) as ever having been nice to a cat… and only had a donkey.

Hmmm, nope, a quick Google ‘Jesus and cats’ comes up blank. If Google can’t find it, it didn’t happen…

    1. ‘I’m on google, therefore I exist’.

Actually, I’m not on google at all so I must not exist, so ‘poof’, I’m now part of the ether (if there was one).

  3. Nice drawing of that T Rex! Hole in box. Drawing on box. Cat jumps in box (of course — maybe there were cardboard boxes around when the presursors of domestic cats evolved?) and wait with camera. Very nice!

  4. That cat in the box is something I would dream after eating too much sugar.

It’s okay, we know you don’t have free will in the matter. 🙂

I like the Larson cat fud cartoon the best, and also his “Just Plain Nuts” cartoon.

    1. I’ve seen the Larson ‘cat fud’ one. Very good.
My favourite Larson is the one with a car full of cows driving past a field full of humans and one cow is yelling out the window at them ‘Yackety yak yak’.
Another good one is a car full of d*gs with a cat crossing the road in front and one of the d*gs says, ‘Hey Ralph*, 10 points’.

*His name might not have been Ralph’.

  6. I learn from the daily OED tweet that Jèrriais (the descendent of Norman French spoken in Jersey) has a very useful word ‘acatonné’, it means ‘curled up in the corner like a cat’.

    1. For some reason this conjured up an image of musclebound knuckleheads hanging out on the beach, drinking beer, and speaking Norman French with a New Jersey accent.

  7. I think the tepid response to the cat beard contest reflects your commenters’ excellent survival instincts.

  8. The cat beard was cute, but not enough for most people (like those with jobs, school, household tending, etc) to wish to either get a cat to cooperate or failing that, have some skill with Photoshop or some such cut and paste software (and it was a sort of bad time of the year for most real people.) Really cute kitten dinosaurs, however could be epic. I have all these pictures of Grumpy Cat dinos dancing through my head. I can’t even imagine (okay, I can imagine, but Henri isn’t mine) just what Henri would choose. I don’t recall an existential dinosaur offhand. Perhaps he would instead picture himself as a fatal meteorite. Or whatever; what does it matter anyway?

And don’t beat up too much on either of them (or their minions) for “selling out.” Which of us, (at least those without tenure) could turn their backs on that kind of money? Especially with an offer to support abused and/or abandoned pet programs thrown into the mix!)

  9. As far as #2 goes, they’re still natural born killers and the one which hangs around this house is excellent at dispatching contemporary dinosaurs – in fact he seems to have a particular taste for honeyeaters.
