I’m not sure why a liberal paper like the Guardian is so obsessed with news of the Royal Baby, but at least they realize that some of their readers aren’t down with it. And so, on their webpage, you can see see this:
Enlarged:
“Republican” in the UK denotes someone opposed to the monarchy; such folk naturally wouldn’t want to read about the Royal Baby.
One Twitter user has found something of infinitely greater interest:

I wish someone would reissue Christopher Hitchens’s book on the monarchy in paperback. Now would be a good time.

Hahahaha!!!! I’ve been avoiding CBC because they mention it about three times in each news report. I wish you could do this for broadcasts as well!
Hmpf. “Standoff” implies roughly equally matched combatants. Clearly, the cat would have the advantage in the situation were it not for the presence of that blasted impenetrable clear force field….

Depends on the bird, could be something evil like a goose or a swan.
Yes, but only if the geese have chariots of iron.

US new outlets should pick up this idea. I could use a KardashianBlock.
Ach. “News outlets”.
There’s a theorem that says you always notice these things half a second after you click Post.
There is another on the number of irrational spellings outnumbering the rational ones along the string line. (Or so I think.)
One of the miseries that language has saddled us with, more ways to make messes.
Money.
The satirical magazine Private Eye has the best front page today: “Woman has Baby”.
I hadn’t noticed the “Republican” option on the Guardian, that is a very useful tool. Poor Guardian, ideally it should be their default setting. Never understood the worldwide obsession with the UK’s German royals. It feels good to live in a country that got rid of its Habsburg overlords over seven centuries ago and never looked back.
Congratulations on your great victory in 1315 and the liberation of Unterwalden. Best wishes for your future success.
Queen Elizabeth was born in Britain. Her parents were both born in Britain. All four of her grandparents were born in Britain.
How is she German?

Where’s Britain?
Do you by any chance mean the UK or perhaps Great Britain?
It is within living memory that the Saxe-Coburg Gotha family changed their name to “Windsor” due to the unpopularity of being German in Britain at war with Germany.
Off to set the “Republican” cookie from the Grauniad’s website.
That happened on July 17, 1917, 96 years ago. Assuming you’d have to be about five years old to remember it, it’s likely that such a person of 101 years (or more) still lives. She’d make a great interview subject for the BBC.
How is this claim that the Royal Family isn’t really British materially different from the claim that Barack Obama isn’t a real American because his father was Kenyan and he has a foreign-sounding name?
National Public Radio this morning led with a phrase to the effect, “In an age of Twitter . . . .” in its news items about the birth and the means by which it was announced.
Twas nothing but veiled fatuous opinionating and bloviating about not being a happy camper about how the royal family chooses to break the news. Bravo to all involved in this event for not succumbing to the imprecations of the media and other ululating human primates who are apparently hurting for something to do and yammer about.
Considering the great mass of Amuricun yahoos who work themselves up about the matter, perhaps we should rejoin the British Commonwealth.
The last time a royal birth in England mattered (and it very much did) was 1688, when it led to allegations of fraud and the overthrow of James II.
Better stories about the royal baby than stories about the misery cult Pope visiting Brazil.
There are some great pictures though eg one on this andrew brown story.
I am not sure which of the two looks more miserable.

Losing to the Pentecostals? Well, I don’t think the Catholics are much less barking-mad, but they don’t show it as much. How can the cracker cult compete with these “Pentecostal Preachers Gone Crazy.”
On YouTube:
My vote for the prince’s name: Scooter.
How about “Rusty”, middle name “Trombone?”
One question I have about the birth that our media hasn’t answered, is “Did Kate empty her bowels during the birth?” And if so, has the stool been saved for posterity? Come on media, do your job! We the public have a right to know!
“George” got 5/2 odds. They could have named him “Scooter”, got 1,000,000/1 odds, and cornered the royal baby name market. Idiots.
