They predicted this storm, and pretty accurately, too. The weather report last night said that it would fall lightly starting at 3 a.m., and would turn heavier in the afternoon, accumulating to between 8 and 12 inches. And that is what happened, though the accumulation is less than six inches at the moment while it continues to snow heavily.
Here is the snow falling around Botany Pond. There should be five big turtles huddled in their houses at the bottom of the pond.
And snow in the quad. It will be over by the evening, we are told, and I will not have to get my head covered with the white stuff as I walk to work.
Geez. Like the UChicago sweat shirts say, “Where Hell really does freeze over!”
Yep. Still coming down out here in the burbs. Very pretty.
Yep. It’s heading my way, with 4-6 inches predicted. But it’s always late and always lesser than predicted. I have the snowblower prepared and ready to go, even so.
Wow!
I have to say: I don’t miss it at all. A big part of the reason we moved to the PNW was to get away from Midwest winters (and the bugs and the summer humidity).
Hear hear!
I do miss the very occasional ice storms which make the trees crystalline. Magic, perfect for the xmas season. (But they’re not worth the downed trees and power lines, and the dangerous driving and walking.)
Nice! ❄️❄️❄️
That’s how I remember winter in New England. My wife, a U of C alumna, is very familiar with the snow in Chicago.
Campus looks so much better in winter with a layer of snow. I remember once in college I was walking with my best friend across the Midway to our dorm, and we could see a line of snow moving towards us, and then over us. Never had that happen since.
