Readers’ wildlife photos

December 15, 2020 • 8:00 am

Thanks to the several readers who sent me sets of wildlife photos. My stock will keep me going for at least two weeks, but remember—I can always use more.

Today’s photos come from Bob Fritz; I’ve indented his captions.

A few photographs taken at the San Joaquin Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary located in Irvine, California (near the UCI campus).  There are many trails and frequent wildlife.  Although located in the city, it can feel as though you are out in the country.

  1. Great set! Invigorating – beautiful!

Sorry I can’t comment on every RWP – they’re all great!

    1. Thank you! The photo is real. However, the original raw file had a lot of contrast – the sky was pale and the vegetation dark. So I did some adjustments to compensate.

  2. Is there any way to purchase one of the photos? We love the moon shot, and our walls at home are all blank.

    1. Thank you! Unfortunately I’m not currently setup for making prints. The files posted here are small but I could email you a larger version which you could then get printed. However, the moonrise photo may not look good – the camera was focused on the distant mountains and the depth of field was not sufficient for the closer vegetation. This is not obvious on the small image posted here, but would be on a large print.

      1. Hi Bob, please feel free to email me at ail2106 [at] caa.columbia.edu. My wife and I also think the picture of the mallard is phenomenal. We’d be thrilled to print.

  3. Good grief ! For a brief moment I thought the Holy Ghost (Say’s Phoebe) was flapping in to support us. ☺️
Wonderful photos and thank you for sharing.
