Here Brian Keith Dalton, in his “Way of the Mister” series (he’s not playing God here), discusses the Chapel Hill murders of three Muslims by Craig Hicks, and the subsequent rush to pin that crime on atheism. His point is that those who pin the violence on New Atheists (none of whom call for violence) while defending religious scriptures (which explicitly call for violence) are simply hypocrites.
Mr. Deity is becoming quite the strident atheist!
Good for Brian Dalton! I’m looking forward to watching this one tonight!
Exactly.
Good call!
Well. He neatly wrapped that up. Unfortunately about three sentences in the “believers” only heard “blah, blah, blah …. etc. Amen”
But I do take some heart form the fact that this message is starting to ping around like well hit five iron in ceramic shower.
Very good. Brief and concise. I am saving this as a resource.
Same here.
Indeed. Dalton has evolved into a major contributor of keeping me resource-full.
Good work!
Karen Armstrong? Let’s hear you.

What, no curse words?
I guess the really cussy one was prompted by
SaintPope Francis’s admonition not to criticize religion. Fair enough, as this one clearly meant to be as reasonable and anger-free as possible.Still, a well-placed f-bomb or two in the last couple of sentences would have been appropriate, given the extremity of the hypocrisy The Mister is calling-out.
“Still, a well-placed f-bomb or two in the last couple of sentences would have been appropriate, given the extremity of the hypocrisy The Mister is calling-out.”
Ok, but as it is, any youngster 10-18 can listen to, and not have her/his elders rag on, Mr. D for reasons of alleged profanity, eh?
That is a strong argument in favor of civility. I concur.
Me three. To my ears, the tone and manner precisely fit the matter (substance), without so much as a wasted syllable. An expletive might make the choir (or self) feel better for a microsecond, but it adds not one substantive bit to what was already said, and it would provide grounds for dismissal of the entire message. And I’m about as foul-mouthed a person as is possible, outside the armed forces and construction industry. (actually I’m worse in many respects, considering my line of work)
I was half way expecting Mr. Deity to lace this message with some profanity, given his last video, so it hit me quite significantly when instead he used well spoken, even toned, g rated language and logic throughout. To me it was quite powerful. Even without having experienced the prior video containing the retort to the Pope this video statement should have a good chance of getting through to someone who might not be of the non religious persuasion. I hope so, at least.
Very good video. As I was watching it, it also seems to me that believers who try to soft-pedal the violence in their religion, as well as being hypocrites, are essentially saying “I was just following orders.”
Bravo.
Brian Dalton has to be one of the most underrated personalities in the atheist movement. I think he is amazingly ingenious and he’s jokes are not just funny but well informed. I hope he gets a bigger platform at some point.
I agree. He is always incisive and insightful – and succinct! A great voice.
+2 I’ve always gotten a kick out of him. His Mr. Deity was so hilariously different when the series began, and now I’m appreciating these monologues with their fire and wit.
Very good video.
Splendid stuff. Not only some stridency, but also seems to be effective in that he presents a clear logical train of thought that illustrates his point. A pity he has been declared persona non grata by some atheists.
I shouldn’t be surprised but, really? What is it about Mr. Deity those atheists feel warrants othering him?
I’ll take “People who are not diehard social Justice Warriors for $500, Alex. And I’m still waiting for you to mighty my penis!”
