Caturday felid

Presenting Verismo Leonetti Reserve Red, the Guinness World Record holder for “longest cat.”   This behemoth Maine Coon cat is 48 inches long from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail, and weighs 35 pounds. He is NOT fat!  Leo lives in the suburbs of Chicago, and I’ve not yet seen him, but would love to.  A cat like this can keep you warm in those Chicago winters. . . leoatvet_t

Guinness compares Verismo Leonetti Reserve Red to the same size as an 8 year old child and his paw just fits into a size 2 child’s shoe.  But if he were a human to Guinness’s scale, Leo would stretch over 8 feet tall and weigh 220 pounds.

Freida [his owner] says “We have to keep our eye on him when we’re cooking, because he can stand up and put his paws on the kitchen counter.”  Leo’s dietary favorites are listed by Guinness.

  1. I saw a 34-pound cat at the local Humane Society two years ago. You can’t tell from the picture, but it was in a dog cage, twice as big as a cat cage, and he fills it as a normal cat would a normal-sized cage.

  2. How am I supposed to judge his relative size if no one placed a quarter next to him?

Damn, that is a big boy. I’m going to have to stop calling my cat “fatty”. She looks like one of his kittens!

  3. Darren Naish over at tetrapodzoology has written many fascinating articles on cats of unusual size, turning up in unusual locations.
    google search.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in cats.

  4. Warm cats are love. It’s been a bit chilly her the last coupla days, so it’s quite nice to have the cat snuggle up.

I usually call him “Fatso”, but by the looks of it I’ll have to go back to “Dummkatz”.

  5. My cats are 19 pounds, and they definitely are overweight (though they do seem to comfortable with themselves). I need to cut back on the treats a bit.

I’ve been thinking about adding a Rag Doll cat to the family.

  6. This cat is simply FAT. Maine coons are suppose to be big, but slender. Poor one. Why cant people treat their animals like they should be treated? If you eat to much that doesnt mean that your cat also has to do it. He will not be happy rolling instead of walking.

  7. I have three normal-weight cats and one that eats every 20 minutes if she can. I’ve taken to putting her out for the day or picking up the food. The others are all normal cats who will nibble a spoonful now and then and like to have it out.
