Reprising a few Roolz

If you are posting here for the first time, or haven’t read the guidelines for commenting, read “Da Roolz” here or on the left sidebar.

I want to emphasize two rules which seem to be violated fairly often these days:

1.) Please be civil and do not call other commenters names. This may be related to the pandemic, but I’ve noted a lot of people getting pretty nasty in the comments lately. If a comment is notably uncivil or rude, I will not post it, and the commenter will either be warned, moderated, or banned depending on the content and the frequency of nasty remarks. Really, it’s not that hard to be civil: you can disagree with someone’s opinion or claims without calling them names or pointing out that they’re an ignoramus. If you insist on being rude, there are plenty of websites where you’re welcome.

2.) Please try not to dominate threads by posting over and over again. This, too, seems to be being ignored. A good guideline is this from the Roolz:

Try not to dominate threads, particularly in a one-on-one argument. I’ve found that those are rarely informative, and the participants never reach agreement. A good guideline is that if your comments constitute over 10% of the comments on a thread, you’re posting too much.

I’ll raise that to 15%, but if you’re making more than one comment in every six, consider whether you’re hijacking a thread.

One more point: due to the volume of emails I get every day, please don’t send me more than one every day or so. Otherwise the chance it will be noticed at is lower and the chance it will be lost is higher.

Thanks,
The Management

    1. His Ceilingcatness has forgotten to attach the traditional “I approve of this post” comment to a ceilingcat on a post.
“Subtle”? Oh, that’s two doors down. This is the department of bricksock facial readjustment.
