I may be busy for a while. . . .

May 1, 2021 • 2:00 pm

Dorothy’s ten offspring jumped three stories down to the pond at 8:45 this morning (another one was either injured or had a malformed leg, and I’ve sent it to rehab). Posting may be light for a longish while as I make sure the ducklings are protected and fed.

The ducklings in the photos below have been on the pond for only a few hours. It’s their first experience with water and the world in general.

Naptime!

  1. Oh, Wow! Best wishes to Dorothy, the ducklings, and PCC(E)! I hope that Dorothy is able to raise her own brood first time round this year.

  2. I hope she keep’s her brood this year. A splendid hen (and I still think a Honey offspring). Schmuley and you and other duck care staff will be busy. At least your vaccinated this year!

  3. Well done, professor. I’m sure under your tutelage the ducklings will be OK. Don’t let them get into all that CRT – ducks should take each other by the content of their character, not the color of their feathers. 🙂

  4. That’s excellent news! Thanks for keeping us abreast of things, PCC(E)! I hope the little one will thrive at rehab. Poor thing…. not an auspicious entry into this big, wild, wide world. It should be named Lucky (Lucky to have a benefactor such as you), because out in the real wild, I’m not sure of its chances.

  5. Congratulations Jerry. Now, the hard work begins for you and the other duck handlers. I am looking forward to seeing both broods of ducklings growing up. I hope the injured duckling survives and can rejoin the brood at some stage. All the best.

  6. Congratulations to a smooth birthing this year, you had planned for everything. (I remember your anxieties the first years, how you fretted and wondered if you were getting it all right.)

You are getting it all right. You and Honey make a great team.

  7. Tom T. Hall’s “I Love”:

    “I love little baby ducks,
    Old pick-up trucks,
    Slow movin trains, and rain . . . .”

Of course easily found on YT.
