I suppose I’m bawling up a drainspout here (to steal a phrase from Mencken), but if you’re commenting on this site, please read Da Roolz (the commenting rules), which you can find here or on the left sidebar. We’re getting a lot of new commenters who bull their way in, expecting this site to be like Ph*rnyg*l*, in which all kinds of rudeness is not only tolerated, but is de rigueur.
Nope, not here. You must be civil and not insult either other readers or your host. And don’t start crying “free speech!” if you’re banned. I repeat Rule #22:

I reserve the right to trash comments that are hyperreligious, hyper-creationist, uncivil, trollish in nature, or otherwise inappropriate. There is no “right” to have every comment you make published on this site. If that is “censorship,” then it’s also “censorship” when the editorial section of a newspaper doesn’t publish some readers’ letters in the interest of keeping a civil and interesting atmosphere. I try to use as light a hand as I can consonant with keeping an atmosphere of civility and sanity. If you have something to say that I won’t go along with, you are free to start your own site. Readers who are obnoxious and keep making the same argument again and again, adding nothing new, will be considered trolls and subjection to sanction.
I blame the onslaught of peevish, splenetic, and uncivil people on the pandemic. But, virus or not, they won’t be tolerated.
Thanks. I’m a little old lady who’s been scorched too often by young whippersnappers for innocent or ignorant remarks on websites. I still read those sites, but I don’t risk comments anymore.

I sometimes read the crazy replies on news articles either on the news site or on FB and have to wake myself up and ask “what are you doing wasting your time with this?!” because it’s just full of nutty, vitriolic, ignorant comments.
For several years now, I have suspected I just might be a little old lady, and people’s perceptions of me now tend to confirm that. But I used to be the one who would scorch young whippersnappers. This moderated site helps me be a better me.
Can I just point out that in the preview at the end of the post, it says
“Robin DiAngelo has a bra…”

Same for me. Without someone monitoring the site it would soon be gone. I am sure we do not see some of the worst because it is removed before we see it. I try not to comment more than once or twice on any posting. Sometimes it is more only because of trying to answer other’s comments to mine.
